Hi guys.

Wondering - Can you get just an eye test only (with prescription) from Independent opticians?

Wanna save a few bucks from the mark up they do on the glasses.

Thanks

Nate

Yes they always give you a copy of your eye test prescription so you can use that anywhere

If you want a really cheap pair try Glasses direct. I've got a referral link here for £35 off frames. They won't win any fashion awards and the frames of the cheapest in the range can be a bit plasticky but all the lenses are professionally manufactured to your prescription and are ideal for a back up pair. I got 2 pairs last time and got a pair tinted for the summer, to use like sunglasses.

Glasses direct £35 off frames.

I went for an eye test for the first time in about 2 years at Specsavers last week. My eye sight hasn't changed at all so no need for any new glasses but if I had done that handoff they do between the person doing the eye test and the sales person on the shop floor who helps you choose your glasses doesn't at any point make it clear that you can just take these eye results to another place and get glasses cheaper lol

It may be better to buy on the high street rather than online. A couple of studies have found about a quarter / half the online glasses had the wrong prescription or other problems.

Interesting

I've considered doing this but actually stuck with Specsavers so far!

I brought once online years ago and it was an awful experience so I've stuck with Vision Express, there's a whole host of measurements they do when they fit your specs that you can't do online.

do you not just give these online people the results from your test at vision express or do they ask for more info?

When an optician fits your frames, they check to see exactly where you’re looking through the lenses, and then they usually mark it on the lens of the frames you try on. This mark indicates where the centre of vision should go, which ensures that you’re looking through the exact spot that corrects your focus.

Generally, when you order online, the company puts the vertical centre of vision in the geometric centre of the lens, the geometric centre of the lens may not be the part you’re looking through.
