Instagram is my favourite social media, and has been, in the past, my biggest source of traffic to my blog.

If you really want to create the opportunity for new followers on your instagram, they recently recommended 3-5 posts a day. But that would be a struggle if you had to post 5 new pictures a day!

So I've been looking at those websites that have free stock photos you can use on your Insta, and found one called Unsplash which has amazing pictures. I just choose a theme I want to stick to, search for pictures and then say something interesting under the picture I choose to post to Insta.
I would try to be careful of how much content is yours vs someone else's. For example, 1 picture from Unsplash, 4 pictures by me.

I've used Stories a few times, but often don't feel interesting enough to post anything, and as my account has been set to private for a little while, only like 8 people actually see them!

Instagram is the one social media I need to get more into. I think I want to use it linked to my blog and my other secret project (you lot will be the first to know).

I've used Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest more in the past. All of which have been sources of sales or business enquiries. Yes, I've had a bookkeeping enquiry from someone who originally found something I posted via Pinterest that I pout there about 3 years ago!!!

I view Instagram as a visual representation or moodboard of who I am as a person/personal brand/blog. So I try to keep the focus on what I like within reason, rather than doing what other people are doing on there, and becoming a poor copy of someone else! I just use my iPhone, and try to take a bunch of pictures in one go, especially as we approach winter where lighting will become a problem!

That sounds good. There is too much rubbish on social media and like you I do not really want to add to it. Which is why I am having to think very carefully about the whole monetization thing too.

Agreed! I wouldn't feel bad for using Amazon affiliates in my book review posts because it's an organic growth from hobby blog, to blogging professionally, especially as I usually include the link to Amazon in my posts for free. But I wouldn't want to post absolute drivel, either on my blog, or sponsored content on Instagram being a real phoney!

That articulates my views perfectly! Being authentic I think is key :)

You can't upload them from your laptop.

I am still using dropbox at the moment.

I'm sure i discovered a way to do this, theres a lttle 'mobile view' icon so you can switch to that on your laptop and upload from your laptop

You can a lot of hashtags in stories but picking a background colour for the text so it hides it. It's time consuming but hashtags like "#fruitoftheday# has got me hundreds of views eventhough no one can see the hashtag in the story ;)

That sounds a bit spammy though, reminds me of those website rigging the search results with annoying 'hidden' or not so hidden words at the bottom of the page.

I used this way to upload images from laptop earlier this year on my now unused insta account

https://www.wikihow.com/Post-Pictures-on-Instagram-from-Your-Computer

Just tried that but it's not working for me, the page format changes to mobile size/layout but it's still asking
me to install the app to upload & share my photos.

Does anyone use this browser? - it claims to trick instagram into seeing your pc as a mobile
and let you upload photos off a computer. http://windowed.io/

Still ploughing away on Instagram. Got around 1500 followers now. I don't tend to put up a lot of content compared to others. Maybe 1 or 2 grid pics a week and a story or two about something but that's it. I interact when I can, I've found people are FAR more interactive to stories than they are to putting up regular pics. Had a LOT of traction for signups and stuff via them so that's good.

In some ways it's weird as there are people who run their ENTIRE online business via their Instagram account which I think is personally nuts but they seem to do great business charging £1000+ for a pic!

Apologies if I've missed the point of Insta stories, but I find it really annoying if you click on a profile to view it - and it goes on the slow slide show story thingy.
As for running an entire business on Instagram, isn't that a single point of failure risk.

it IS a single point of failure and it's a platform you don't own / control but trust me, the money is there!

If you have all the photos on your laptop, you can just upload the photos to the cloud and then download these photos from this cloud and upload them to Instagram. And yes, photographing photos from a laptop from a phone is stupid, and the image quality will be terrible :) When I first started my blog on Instagram, I had a problem that new people didn't subscribe to me. I thought I should try to get likes and followers from this service -- 1394TA to increase the awareness of my profile so real people could go to it and subscribe. So...

Just saw this thread has been updated - I can confirm Instagram now works via your laptop so you can upload directly from what's on your computer. Just navigate to Insta on your browser like Chrome, log in & use as normal, no app required :)

My Insta handle is @invisiblymeblog - https://www.instagram.com/invisiblymeblog/ - if anyone wants to follow and I'll follow back.

Except that you can't share to stories on desktop, which is a pain in the bum.
