Does anyone here invest in silver or other precious metals? I would like to buy some silver but I have no idea where to start. Any recommendations for trustworthy websites or which formats to purchase in would be appreciated if anyone is in the know :)

Thanks

Perhaps a silver ETF like ishares SSLN held in an isa. I hold 2% of my investments in SGLN gold ETF as a hedge against inflation and currency debasing.

No, not related to Reddit, I just fancy making an investment.

Above reply a bit too advanced for my level :ROFLMAO: No idea what WTF, SSLN, SGLN, ETF, hedge against inflation or currency debasing mean :(

@SarahLu, sorry WTF was a typo lol.
ETF is Exchange Traded Fund. Typically low-fee, traded in real time.
SSLN and SGLN are the fund identifiers used by ishares for those specific ETFs.
And gold could protect one's money against inflation due to being a real asset - similar to how a physical property is a tangible asset that may retain its value over the long term.

By currency debasing, I mean the erosion of the spending power of pounds. £1 now will be worth less in the future in real terms.

Whether it's worth buying gold or silver NOW. Maybe. But smart money would've been buying it 5+ years ago at a cheaper price.

Gold and silver mining stocks would be worth a look too. Be wary of buying silver in the middle of this reddit ramping though. It might fly but it might not go up much more and you could be buying at the short term peak.

@rninja well we'd all love a time machine wouldn't we. Luckily I bought mine in 2006, it's the one single financial investment I've made that I can gloat about.

@homie, not sure that gold and silver mining stocks are uncorrelated to equities. They're still stocks IMO, which would be in a global equity index. whereas SGLN/SSLN could offer a different asset class.

Gone ahead and got some silver coins before seeing these replies. Not sure if I've done the right thing now but oh well, hopefully it will still be profitable in the long term.

Fresnillo is a big silver miner but ETFs and something with more diversification might be less risky.

I was gonna joke but who knows, I'd look foolish saying no only for its explode in the next months/years. A lot if these things are just luck/timing.
