I've decided to go back to reselling, having a few branded bargains from the chazza. I cant believe how slow it is on there! Few years ago, the stuff Ive just put on would have watchers and usually sell within three days.
Is anyone else finding that it's very slow sales?

Yes. I have a couple of brand new but unwanted items and they've been there for months.

The other day, I sold our petrol lawnmower that I find difficult to fire up and turns me into Basil Fawlty and it went within a couple of days.

But me and the bloke who came for it were complaining that ebay is a nightmare at the moment, what with the way the payment thing works now. It's barely worth it. Looking on some forums, I think a lot of people are becoming a bit fed up. I'm seriously considering going back to something like the Friday Ad.

I guess it's possible that people are just not buying as much at the moment as well though.

I sell the odd furniture item and some of my grandsons toys on gumtree but absolutely could not be bothered with selling clothes on there...likey to get people wanting to try things on 'have you got a mirror ' ....well no, and judging by your hair neither do you.

I'll give these their 30 day run then re donate them

@Jute - How do you sell things for local collection? I am wary if doing this as the ebay system picks up if you give a buyer your address, last time I asked ebay help about how someone could call round to view an item, they suggested i get the buyer to pay first then give them the address....then refund them if they dont want to buy it.

I’m about to put a load of stuff on there - don’t mind if it’s good ‘til gone to be honest, as a lot of it is Mum’s stuff she doesn’t want and would (under normal circumstances) sell rather well and cover a few recent costs. I’ve scored some incredible bargains on there recently, however, which implies to me it’s not a fun time to be a seller…

I started selling items a few months ago and it was amazing. Sold everything instantly, and was even getting offers. Most of my items were getting good amount of views and watchers.

Then all of a sudden, eBay changed the way they recorded 'views' in their selling section and literally every item I had on sale was stuck on 0 views for weeks. Seems a bit coincidental. The thing is, I had some shoes on there that were on £80 and I was seeing other peoples exact shoe that sold for £120+ so I have no idea what's going on.

I didn't know that. Thank-you.

Either they've changed the system, or I hadn't noticed it but the buyer marks 'paid' on their account, then when they collect with their cash, you mark 'paid' on yours and then 'item collected'. They imply that this should all happen on the app because you're supposed to scan or enter a code that's sent to the buyer but he didn't receive it. Turns out I could mark it on the website anyway, so it was all fine in the end.

I'm assuming this method was introduced because of difficulties with collection after Paypal got ditched as a payment method because I was doing what you were advised to do.

I think what's annoying people is the 10% and then some on top they're taking (including a percentage of any postage according to the gripes on the forums). My mower (a year old) was up for 100, I took 80 and they took nearly 10.5, so it's about 13-14% now.

Does ebay no longer offer cash on collection as a payment option then?

I definitely think that the number of items you have listed affects how highly ebay ranks your listings in search results. With more items listed = you get more exposure.

I bought a job lot of erasable highlighters and pens a while back and when I had them all listed was selling one pack roughly every other day. Now I'm down to just a couple of listings left nothing has sold for over 2 weeks.

I need to test this properly, but that is my theory.

I have a market niche and sales are definitely slower for than at any other time in the last decade. I honestly put this done to people simply not spending money right now. The wider economic situation has a lot of people spooked. A cousin of mine who sells across more areas is also experiencing a slowdown.
