Hey all a bit of an update! Mostly on the new venture I've been hinting about...

I've started making up story sacks - these usually appear in schools but are a great resource for reading with children - they usually consist of a story, a supporting non-fiction book, supporting toys/game and sometimes printed words/images; then it all goes into a "sack".

I'm putting these together by going round boot sales and picking up items that are in good (or better) condition for anywhere between 10p-£1 each, then putting them together in cotton drawstring bags (that cost me £1.28 each) and selling them on. Each bag is costing me between £3.50-£5 to put together and I'm selling them for £13-£18.

I got the idea for this because my local toy library were selling off theirs for £15 each and some of the items in them were well loved, they sold them really quickly and said "they could have sold them several times over". I wondered how doable it would be to go round boot sales/charity shops and doing this myself. I wasn't meant to spend much but got a bit addicted and carried away ::), I now have 24 story sacks on the go (about 11 completed so far).

I've sold one already (amazingly to someone I didn't already know) and had some interest from other people but haven't translated into sales yet. I'm currently selling on Facebook - but thought about putting them on eBay and even starting a blog for them; mostly so I can add them to Pinterest as I can't pin from Facebook!!

So here's an update on my totals so far :)

uTest: $259.21 pending (approx £165.57)
Prolific Academic: £10.85
Finditforless: £12.07 (vouchers)
GeoLotto: £19.51
Leapforce: $62.77 (approx £40.08)
Story Sacks: £18.00

Total for May so far: £105.31 cash £2.83 vouchers
Total overall: £254.01 cash £12.07 vouchers

Yay, keep up the good work with the story sacks.

^_^ thank you, I'm going to go to a baby/children's market with them next week as they're going to let me have it as a pre-loved stall (£10) rather than a business stall (£29). I'm also going to take some of my daughters old clothes too :)

Well done, such a great idea. My son used to love taking a story sack home from nursery and we ended up buying a few of the books in them on Amazon.

Good luck with the stall.

Thanks Chammy :) they are kind of the sort of thing that people could put together themselves but as the lady who just bought one said - she couldn't be bothered! She's a childminder too and said she would probably buy more - she also asked if I could do 'The Very Hungry Catetpillar' - I had already nearly completed one! So she said could I keep that one back for her ^_^

I never put the link to the facebook page actually...

The stall is a test the waters thing - I never planned on doing one, but as it was only £10 and I can also get rid of some other bits I thought it was quite likely I would make the money back.

Hi Kelzky, loving your story sack idea, I've liked your FB page, Very good luck, I'm sure it'll do well x
How did you get on yesterday?

Thank you [member=121]Skinnylatte[/member] ^_^ yesterday... Isn't worth mentioning :( I sure can pick 'em. I mostly did it as I wanted to get rid of some of my daughters stuff but it was dire - I always thought these baby and children's markets were meant to be heaving but there were less than 40 people through the door. Thankfully I made back the cost of the stall (£12) plus an extra £18 on top of that but that's only because I managed to sell a car seat for £25... Other than that I sold a dress and two toys.

At least there was a little profit. I'm surprised tho, it's been along time since I've been to anything like that, but when I did they were mad, well attended and lots of pushing to get to the front!

I know right? They are still like that but apparently not this one -_- the stress/time/effort wasn't worth it at 35 weeks pregnant lol nevermind - lesson learned

Just read your money earning diary and I think the story sack idea is great. I have a 3 year old and recommend "The Jolly Postman" , "The Tiger Who Came to Tea", and "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" as good books he enjoys. :)
