They set that goal and then 3 months later you see their blogspot blog has died a death even after they post all their motivation quotes in poster form up in their office..

Nothing wrong with a good motivational quote though. Especially on a t shirt. Worn whilst eating an avocado.

Oh god that’s bad. I wonder at what point they realise they’re kidding themselves? It’s so inauthentic, this is why I got out of an MLM business - I didn’t want to lie and mislead people that I was doing better than I was.

were you actually advised to do that by your MLM recruiter? Which mlm was it you worked for again?

I think it is good for a positive mindset and if that is what people gain from LOA then great. What I can't stand is this 'one size fits all' that ANYONE can have ANYTHING if they just visualise it or ask the universe, light a candle (from someone's LOA range) or hold a LOA crystal.

I'm not disputing whether some things work or not it just feels quite shady in parts now.

It was a US vitamin distributor :) It was never explicitly said by the top people but was definitely encouraged by my ‘upline’. I found the whole thing phoney and didn’t make any money out of it either! Lots of free vitamins though!

I don't know if you watch Dave Gorman Life is Goodish, but he does one episode about paying people to say whatever you want them to and advertising everything. Some will just reel out the job from home that pays £20,000 a month and don't seem to see what is wrong with it. I don't know anything about LOA other than what I have just read here, but it seems to be along the same lines. Telling people what they want to hear and charging them for it.

I haven't read The Secret yet although I've contemplated reading it. Personally I 100% believe in the Law of Attraction and speaking things into existence. Whenever I've gone for something big e.g. a job interview or the day I was doing my driving test, I would tell myself in the morning "Today is going to be a good day" and literally focus on the positive and believing the desired outcome would come into fruition. Et voila! I passed my test and got the call that I got the job. Of course it doesn't work for everything - but I truly believe that change comes from within and it's all about having determination and optimism!

So just to play devils advocate here explain to me how unearth telling yourself 'you are going to pass' would actually control every other car you would have interacted with during that driving test?

You passed that test through hard work in the months prior to it and using all that knowledge and skill to pass the test on the day.

I think it's fine to say 'yeah i am going to pass this test' but the reason you DID pass isn't connected with that thought imo

I think it was more about controlling nerves, and driving to the best of my ability. I had already failed three times before for waking up feeling negative/anxious/worried and not driving how I know I would drive in my lessons. On the third go, I decided I could do it. I stayed positive and really focused on the positive and believing in myself. As I said in my original post - it doesn't work for everything at all! Otherwise we'd all be millionaires and living our dreams. However, I definitely think the law of attraction is a real thing on some level. For some people its an unconscious drive to be successful, drives success in their lives. For others we have to be more conscious about it to actually notice a difference!

Yep spot on. There’s no one size fits all. Did I read that you’re a life coach? Do you have a blog?
I have paused my life coaching biz due to my health. Am in the process of creating a new lifestyle blog for chronic illness warriors though :)

Its good that you go the job but how do you know that a few of the other candidates did not do exactly the same thing? They were focused and positive and did not get it.

Perhaps they were - I don't know the circumstances of their interviews or their mindset. I can only control my mind, and stay positive to perform my best. I'm not saying the Law of Attraction is perfect or is a solution to all problems (it definitely isn't) but having a negative opinion, focusing on the negative you will yield negative results. Being positive, being optimistic and showing this to others really does attract a more positive outcome.

I will say that I didn't need a book to tell me this - just something that is a natural way of life. We're always more drawn to the more happy, fun and positive people. I've never read 'The secret' but I suspect it's just an elongated version of this concept. I've heard people have read the entire book and there is no secret so I guess we all just have to figure out what works best for us as individuals!

Interesting discussion, I agree with what most have written here about being positive and optimistic and how that helps. I believe in it and feel that it is important to also work towards your goals and make the effort, in addition to being positive about it and believing in it.

Mindful I'm coming into this discussion late on but... I first came across LOA a few years ago having been on a personal development journey for quite a few years. I've looked at what I've achieved so far in life and they are things that I honestly really wanted. I know I really wanted them because I took action and took advantage of opportunities to get them.

I'm with @Jon on this. The keys to success in this life are hard work and never giving up even when the proverbial hits the fan. Stuborness and dogged determination has done a lot for me!

An interesting discussion. Used to work in a bookshop when The Secret was flying off the shelves. The whole LOA thing is that it blames people for not being successful. I remember a prominent 80s kids tv personality who’s name wasn’t Bowl Bury St Edmonds spouting off on this when he finally got a tv gig after a long hiatus. Can’t say I’m a fan of the whole thing but best wishes and winning thoughts or whatever they’re called to those who follow it.
