So I am setting up a website and am looking at needing cookie policy, privacy policy, terms and conditions (including comment policy). How did everyone get these things set up? Is there a good website I can go to?

You will find this information covers a lot of what you are after

https://wordpress.org/plugins/gdpr/

As I have a website rather than a blog per se, I will need terms and conditions and other stuff in there. Not sure where to go and if I should trust online sources. I don't particularly want to pay for a solicitor to write it all for me.

you dont need a solicitor

Comparethematchedbetting and Totally Blogging are not a blog are instead are a static website but both have a privacy policy.

You could just use Rocket Lawyer to make one if you want ;) https://www.rocketlawyer.co.uk/documents-and-forms/website-privacy-policy.rl#

I'm looking into this too for my blog. Does this plugin set up the privacy policy for you? I hope so because I'm so confused by the one I tried to generate on rocket lawyer!
It generates a page for you to copy the privacy policy you made onto it :)

All the plugins do are deal with the admin - sothings like cookie approvals (the annoying acceptances you have to do on all sites etc). You do need to go through the policy on Rocket lawyers or elsewhere and adapt it for your site. The more you read them, the more they make sense.

My advice - go and read some other ones (there's one on here). Personally one I really like is on Katykickers site - it's thorough, but understandable.

I'm still working on mine, but I have some rogue cookies that have made it into my site that I am getting rid of (bad YouTube...)!

After a recommendation on Facebook I've used the generator on www.iubenda.com which was a lot easier to understand. I'll need to tweak it as their free version doesn't cover everything I need, but hopefully that won't be too difficult now.

The whole privacy policy thing honestly only took me an hour or two to sort out.

People want to solution to needing one baked into Wordpress but that's literally impossible because Wordpress is sold all over the world and the rules for each country are all different so they sort of put the emphasis on YOU are the blogger to sort it all out.
