I have tried to cancel my lotto social membership many times, in the end I cancelled my card but yet again this month they have taken £20 off me. How do I stop them taking payments.

Have you got a direct debit set up with them that could be cancelled at your end?

No it was linked to a debit card - I checked on the account and it still linked to old debit card that I cancelled. So I have no idea how they managed to take money out of my account. I have goggled it and there is a big problem with them doing this.
I am going to have to ring the bank tomorrow and report it as fraud. Which given that it is Barclays is going to be fun!

It's not technically fraud. You set up a "continuous payment agreement" using your card. If you stay with the same bank and your card number changes, the bank will give the new card number to lotto social. These things do rely on the company receiving the money to do the cancel, but with a bit of kicking Barclays will help. Saw this on a consumer prog the other day (and was Barclays then too), and it did get resolved eventually.

Yeah for a long time, continuous authority payments were horrible to get stopped. They do indeed persist through card reissues. Though, pressure over recent years has meant banks can do a lot more now, but sometimes frontline agents won't be aware, so you might have to push.
