!!UPDATE!!!
Warning -all online tutoring companies have to shut down in China over the next few months. Magic Ears are still recruiting and running classes as they still have students. I am still being paid by them but looking for alternative gigs.
Apply at your own risk.
I have recently started working as an online English teacher. The company is called Magic Ears and it's been fun so far.
The job requires you to teach 25 minutes English lessons to Chinese students. All the lessons are prepared for you and you don't need that much in the way of equipment.
The requirements are as follows:
1. You must be a native English speaker
2. Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in any subject, or be a student actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree (must provide official transcript)
3. Have a big smile, a passion for teaching & a love for kids (some of you might find this OTT)
4. Hold a 120-hour ESL Certification (you can still apply without one but you won't be able to start teaching until you have it. The firm do offer theirs for $20 or you can find another accredited provider)
5. Plus, ESL/teaching experience preferred (not essential)
Starting base pay is $7.5 for a 25-minute lesson. You also get an extra $1 if you are on time for your lessons and an extra $1 for ALL of your classes if you OPEN up 60 sessions across a month during peak times. Note you do not have to teach these lessons, just open them up.
You can also pick up extra bonuses by being on standby and they have a generous referral scheme.
I am happy to answer any questions about this company and I will be honest. You can earn more money doing matched betting, but if you enjoy being silly around kids, it's a great gig. I wish this had been around when I was a student.
I am also about to start with other companies and I will post my findings on them. Please feel free to ask me any questions.
If you do decide to apply, I would be grateful if you could use my referral link
There is also a Facebook page for prospective teachers - https://www.facebook.com/groups/MagicEarsQA
I hope this will be of interest to some of you.
