Logged into KDP account and realised I've made 4 sales :) (with only 5 books listed).

However, someone has left me a 3-star review - saying they can't record XYZ in the log book. ...But I know the book does what it should do.

@amyjay , can I do anything about an incorrect review?

Does it say verified review at the bottom?

If it does, there's nothing you can do as it means they bought it.

If it doesn't, click report on the review as it means they haven't bought it.

No, it doesn't say verified review.

The three options at the base of review are:
Helpful (button) ... Comment ... Report abuse

Should I click on 'report abuse' or email Amazon about it?

Try emailing Amazon and see what they say about it.

Also well done on the sales!

Looking a lot more at this and watched lots of Rachel Harrison-Sund. Will give a lined notebook a go to get used to the whole process. Got my first idea sorted, validated etc.

I want to make my own lined interior to get used to Canva and have seen some videos on how to do this. But some of the lined interiors templates I have seen online have a slightly bigger margin to one side and they haven't shown this in the videos I watched. I guess this is to account for left and right pages but how do I know how much wider to make the margin that would be at the spine for those lined interior pages?

I am still trying to get through all the info on Amazon too. At this rate i will be lucky if I publish a basic notebook by the end of the year

If you're doing a simple lined journal then the margins shouldn't affect you.

As you'll want to do the lines all the way to the page edges and do it as bleed.

As this means that when it's printed, it will be lined all the way to edges.

I recommend just diving in there and giving it a go. Amazon shows you a preview of the book and will tell you if you're book side or margins are off. And you can learn through that.

Also, is anyone started making valentine's books?

I've made 4 so far, 1 last week and 3 this week and I've already got 2 sales. So hopefully this will increase as it comes closer to valentine's Day.

Thanks. A preview of the book will be really useful. Ye I prefer a notebook with lines right to the edges when I'm writing it's just that most of the templates I've seen seem to have the lines stop before the margins. Think I will stop overthinking it and get going. I know my first book is about the process and is unlikely to be a great seller anyway.

Think it is bit early days for me for Valentines Day books but I might give Easter a bit of thought. How are you doing with it all? You were juggling it alongside your work, does it fit in ok?

Yes Easter is a good shout.
I'm going to focus on that once valentine's is out of the way.

I'm doing quite well with juggling it.
Luckily (or unluckily depending on point of view) I've been part furloughed since November. I worked almost full time in September and October but since then (and probably for February too) I only work 4 hours a day.

Which means I have plenty time to get some books made.

I'm slowly making progress to getting my first notebook online. How many of you put a copyright page? I am not sure how much protection it would actually give because I would use a pen name.

Also do you use a different pen name for each of the different niche areas or do you tend to use the same pen name? I can see a benefit of using one pen name because people might like your book and then click on your name to see others although they might not be relevant if they are for different niches.

If all goes well I will manage to put some time aside and get one online this week :) I hope you are all managing well, too :)

I never put a copyright page.

When you publish, your work is automatically copyrighted. However this is for exact copies only. Amazon will only remove another book if the cover and interior are identical.

I use a different pen name for each niche. Different people do it different ways and some have 1 pen name for all. It's personal preference.

I use a title page with the book title and 'this book belongs to'.
You could put a copyright statement at the bottom of this page.

I also include a tips or checklist page on some books, if it adds value.

Thanks. I am getting nearer to putting my first notebook up. I am laughing thinking of how many you have all created since I last posted here and I'm still figuring out my first one. hahaha.

My aim is to get this notebook on this weekend. I have a lot to juggle with work and family so finding time is not easy just now. I will surely be a slowly but eventually type person.

I was wondering a couple of other things if I may. Do you buy proof copies of your books? I think I will for the first few and I might even use them, hahah.

The other thing I wondered was are you part of any KDP groups? I have very much appreciated your support but don't want to be a pest if there is a good group where I should get info and share excitement - I will for sure keep in touch here, this site has given me inspiration for so long it feels like an old friend. I hope you are all doing well :)

hello
Just wondering if anyone knows where I can find images with clear outlines (no background). The reason I ask is I signed up to Puzzle Publishers, and whilst it's a great tool, the dot to dot option adds the dots to the background instead of the inner image. It's really hard to find a tool that adds precise dots to the image..even with a basic outline the tool misses out several parts of the shape. For example had a unicorn shape and it missed out most of its feet. Any ideas? thanks

I have no experience of Puzzle Publishers but do you have Photoshop or anything similar? You could bring the image into that and just remove the background, resave the image and upload exactly what you want Puzzle Publishers to provide the dot to dot for? Just a thought if you can't find nice clean images.

Hello again. I am nearly there with my first book and have now set up my account. I have two questions if you don't mind please?

I want to use a pen name but on paperback details page it says I need to enter an 'Author' name (first name, second name, etc.). If my pen name was 'Jollyjelly' for example, do I put that in as the first name and leave the rest of the author fields blank? My pen name doesn't have a surname ;)

The other thing I was interested in is that I know you can use html to format your description. Do you just paste the html in the description part? How do you preview it to see it looks okay? Thank you again, sorry for the newbie questions!

Pen name in 'last name' field and leave other fields blank.

Write your description in a HTML description tool (e.g. Kindlepreneur). It'll allow you to convert this to html code. Then copy html code and paste in to kdp description field.

I keep a swipe file of different descriptions. Adapt to fit each book, saves typing from scratch.

Thank you very much, that has cleared up those steps for me. At this rate, my first notebook better be a best seller haha :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:! I am having a look at the bisac categories at the moment so I will get everything ready and i might get this thing uploaded tomorrow :) Thank you again!
