Interested in this - is most of the money generated through kindle readers browsing for for ‘free’ or through actual sales?
How are you guys promoting the books?
Keywords on the site seem pretty saturated!
I have very few books on Kindle low content books aren't allowed.

Most of my books are promoted with keywords only.
I do ads on some books

Hello,

I was just wondering how everybody was getting on with KDP? It has been a long learning curve for me. I started about 18 months ago after reading this feed and getting some inspiration, thanks all! I started off with just notebooks to learn the ropes. I moved on to wordsearches but found that was a new learning curve as well in relation to the best way for them to look, material, keywords, A+ content etc. I have taken them down 3 times now to redo things and I (think!) I am finally happy. I have sold some in the past but the more I learn I believe the more should sell. I enjoy doing them anyway and see it as a hobby but a little bit of income would be nice!

Since I started in summer 2020, I have now made £44000 turnover. This isn't all profit as I also use ads and have other expenses.

The last time I uploaded a book was September 2022.
I estimate I now spend around 100 hours or less a year working on my kdp and I should achieve around £15000 a year profit from now onwards from my current books.

I have a couple ideas for new books based off of some of my bestsellers but haven't gotten round to making it yet as it's very labour intensive and 1 book will probably be around 75 hoursish but my plan is to then advertise the new related book in the back of my bestseller.

My 2 best selling books have made me £5800 and £4900, so just having a few popular books can be some regular passive income. One of the books is a regular £500 a month, the other is around £200 a month but does well at Christmas and made £700 in December.
They both have 4 and a half stars, One has 99 reviews and the other has 78.

I'm always deeply impressed by your success at this.

That is really impressive and I am glad your books have continued to do well. I know what you mean about the labour intensive part, my wordsearch books are 100 pages with 30 words on each page and I personally research each page so there is a theme. I didn't want to do books with just random words so 3000 words takes some time! It does feel good though when a book is complete and you get the email to say it's been published, it's just working up to start each one.

Thanks for sharing. It's nice to hear a genuine story when all you see when searching is 'success stories' that are not actually true.

I'm just in the process of republishing my books (for hopefully the final time!) so I shall update on here how they do in the KDP world.

I will also say and is what I've said from the beginning. Niche research and keyword research are one of the most important things.

Yes your book needs to look good but if you use the wrong keyword or your market is saturated, you won't sell much.

My best seller than sells £500 minimum a month and has 99 reviews, was a lot of niche research and me finding a gap in the market. The book itself took me less than 30 minutes to create and upload.

Not sure if this low content idea is really any good. Have about 70 various items, but no sales. Still selling bits and bobs of my normal stuff. When you look at Youtube vids they (claim) to be sell several every day.
I've had a few books on there (8) for 2 years and only sold four. that being said, i haven't bothered much since i uploaded the first lot and i might start again. only use the youtube videos for stuff you need to learn, don't buy any of their overpriced courses as you can find all you need on the internet for free. Everytime i comment on a video asking for proof of income or disputing their "facts" or how to "earn $9684 per week", i get ignored or my question seems to dissappear.

Hey @hairy_g, it's great to see you exploring different avenues for making money on Amazon. Low-content books can be a unique venture, but as you've mentioned, it can take some time and effort to see significant results. Regarding those YouTube videos and their income claims, skepticism is healthy. It's wise not to rush into expensive courses without thorough research. By the way, if you're looking for a break from all the Amazon selling, consider diving into the Complete Guide to Reading the Harry Potter series. It's a fantastic way to unwind and enjoy some quality reading.
