Print on demand is a great way to make royalties or extra money. Your designs are uploaded onto a site, the site then handles everything from customer service to printing the item out and then pay you a royalty for your design each time it's sold.

I'm not a designer!

The designs don't need to be complicated my dad created a series of text designs I Love NAME using some of the most popular names in the USA and made 100s of $. You could utilise money you make from text designs to hire a designer if you wanted or you can learn how to design using the many Youtube tutorials out there!

Merch By Amazon

Probably the biggest and the easiest to make money on as you have huge organic traffic from million of people! At the moment they have a waiting list so I recommend applying ASAP and as they provide a place to share your work I would sign up for another POD site before so you can share the link to your designs on there. You can view Amazon's design templates here - https://merch.amazon.com/resource/Y28FFE5NLRYJG4V

Merch by Amazon makes it easy for you to create, promote and sell your branded merchandise with no risk and no up-front costs. You simply supply the artwork, choose the product type and color(s), and then promote your products in your app, blog or on social media. Amazon takes care of the rest, including production, sales, shipping and creating a product page on Amazon.com - all at no cost to you.

Teepublic

I recommend you sign up here first - http://tee.pub/lic/juknZaWka4s - and get a few designs up before applying to Amazon Merch.

Amazon pay directly into your bank account every month (so you will receive in £ unless you have an account in a different currency)

Teepublic you are paid in $ to Paypal. In Paypal you can convert the $ to £ then withdraw to your account.

To put the potential into perspective I've earned over $60000 over the last 2 years doing it. :)

Do you have to think about the subject matter for a design? Do you produce the designs in PowerPoint or similar?

You can research trending topics such as politics, sports and the news however I generally stick to evergreen niches such as hobbies, animals etc etc. I initially advise creating designs for niches/subjects you know and are passionate about before branching into researching others.

That being said I often find the ones I don't really think about sell the best! You can use GIMP to create designs (it's free) - https://www.gimp.org/

Me too! I'm pretty sure watching an old episode of catchphrase and using the ones that come up there could be a winner!

I decided to open up a new Income Stream with the Print on Demand suggestion from Bobcat.

I started off creating a couple of designs using the Paint 3D software that was already on my laptop. That was a mistake I can readily pass on. The uploaded design I created was too small. I next downloaded the unfortunately named GIMP package to use to create the designs. GIMP is an image manipulation program, similar to photoshop, but free. As with Bobcat I am no artist so my designs are simple. Even so it took me a few attempts with GIMP to get the look and feel I was after. Fortunately there are plenty of tutorial videos on YouTube.

I chose Redbubble to upload my designs onto as I already know someone who uses this site. There was again a bit of a learning curve to get the designs looking right on the T Shirts and other products that Redbubble sells.

If anybody wants to have a look at what I've done here is the link:

https://www.redbubble.com/shop/LWL-18?ref=search_box

As you can see I have gone with a theme. :)

Hopefully it will start to generate a little income and I do have more ideas so keep going back onto the site and especially my store.

If nothing else I've had some fun (and a few frustrations) over the past few weeks getting this up and running.

Cool designs! Brilliant idea to use a theme, but with multiple design ideas, there's something for everyone. I will give this a go. Thank you.

@bobcat2010 - I've just created a new design this morning (it can get addictive once you get into a groove). I've got 5 or 6 other ideas so I am going to create them all and then load them in a few weeks. The main reason for that is I found that after I had loaded the first designs up and saw them on the T Shirts, mugs etc I wasn't as happy with one or two of the designs so for a week or so I was uploading them, tweaking some and deleting others. So I thought I'd let this first batch settle in my mind before adding any more.

I now have a few questions for you:
1) How long before you made your first sale?
2) Is there any advice you can give on completing the application to get onto Amazon? I see they want details on background and experience. What buzz words will they be looking for?
3) How long before applying did you get in?
