This is right up my street, I have been designing custom designed t-shirts, badges etc for over 5 years now. It was more of a hobby than anything else. Marketing is not my strong point but with this, I don't have to worry about that.

This looks like a numbers game, the more designs you have the more chance of making any money.

Here is my referral link for anyone else that would like to join in:

How do you change a file to PNG on computer? I save on gimp and cant find where to change it to PNG?
To get rid of the white box you need to remove the background layer and save it as a PNG file.
I do my designs on AdobeDraw on iPad, and have an app to remove the white so it can be uploaded correctly, but this is easily done on a computer too.

Worked it out, finally! Videos ive been watching have a different layout to the GIMP I have so I was getting so confused.
Still only on words and nothing else as I find everything passed that complicated. Going to get loads of designs up in text and then have a really good play around with pictures etc...

I'm glad I found this thread. I found some useful videos on youtube. I'm starting simple with some slogan tees on teespring while I learn the ropes. I did download Gimp and I have Photoshop but the video i watched suggested just using the wordswag app to create slogan designs and so far that seems pretty easy.
I think I must have had some pent up creative energy because now the slogans won't stop popping into my head. When I'm trying to sleep they just come to me and I have to write them down or i forget them. Does everyone Google all their slogans before using them to make sure they aren't accidentally copying someone else's idea?

Theres a website for checking copyright - think it's called Trade mark hunter or somethingsimilar. Youll have to be on top of copyright stuff if you go for Amazon Merch

Thanks for the tip. I should probably read up on the copywrite issue before creating any more designs. It's easy to get carried away with the fun designing part and forget the more responsible aspects.

some clever ideas you've got there with the 'month' series of t-shirts

how much money have you made from your designs so far after all fees etc.
I haven't made any money yet, but it's still early days I guess. It's less than a month since I started adding my designs.
I have also signed up to Amazon Merch and Redbubble yesterday.

Will keep you posted how I get on. :)

Have you considered listing on Ebay using a POD company such as Inkthreadable?

I used to create custom designed badges, t-shirts etc through Printpit but for the amount of work I had to do I was making a loss as some of the designs literally took hours as they always wanted things changing. I want to get away from the customer side of things and just make designs and let others worry about dealing with customers etc.

I have also got my first 52 designs up although I am doing slogan tees and am on teespring. As a newbie to print on demand i don't want the hassle of dealing with customer service although once I have more experience i might try different platforms. No sales but it's only been about 9 days so not really expecting any yet. Although I do want to earn some money I am mainly considering it as a learning experience. I would like to learn design and online marketing and this is a fun way to do it.

Can you take the same designs across multiple e-commerce outlets?

Yes, most of them are none exclusive. I'm aiming to get my first 100 designs up on teespring, sort out my storefront, start building a social media presence to get traffic and then when I feel more confident with what I'm doing I'll start uploading to other platforms.

Interesting

So you plan to setup your own site then to sell them? Using woocommerce or similar I guess

Teespring allows you to set up your own branded storefront on their site. You can develope your brand, theme, designs etc while building a social media presence and see what works for you. Then when you are ready you can set up your own shopify store or whatever. Or if you don't want to deal with customer service just put up lots of designs on teespring and it's a bit of passive income whenever they sell.

I submitted an application to join Merch by Amazon on the 1st of July since I heard it could take a while but I got my acceptance in 10 days. I'm going to spend today reading their guidelines, doing a bit of research and choosing my most suitable designs. Anyone have any tips for starting with Amazon Merch?

Did you add your teespring link to your application? I had a few designs on Redbubble when I applied but never included the link
