I didn't include my teespring link. I did put my main brand name, i think. It's hard to know what Amazon are considering when they review applications.

So i signed up with placeit.net a few days ago so i could put my t-shirt designs on models to post to my social media page to help build my brand and drive traffic. It turns out that they also have a design template option which lets you create your designs by inserting your slogan, changing the text colour, choosing an image etc. It's a great way to move on from just slogans. Some of my design ideas just need an image to work. The designs are optimized for uploading to the POD sites so its a bit easier.

If there's anyone who has been putting off trying this because of a lack of design skills this could really help. It's £28 a month and £90 a year, i think. There might also be a free trial. You could sign up, create a design, put it on a model and then post it straight to social media.
Here's my affiliate link if anyone wants to try it.

It's about a month since I started Print on demand. I have about 65 designs up on teespring and I've filled my first 10 designs slots on Amazon Merch. No sales yet but I'm trying to be patient because I know I still have a lot to learn. I deleted half a dozen of my early designs because I can see that they weren't good. I have so much that I want to learn in terms of designing and marketing that it seems a bit overwhelming. I know that learning to do everything will take time but hopefully it will be worth it in the end. Learning Photoshop is a valuable skill even if you aren't doing POD.

It's been 6 weeks since I first started the print on demand thing and I finally made my first sale. It was a pop socket design on Amazon. I did cheat somewhat. Amazon has a tier system which only allows newbies to list 10 designs. Each design is manually reviewed to check for copywrite or other issues and if all your designs are accepted you have to sell 10 to move up to the next tier where you can list 25. I gave it about a month and I switched out some designs to try different things but I didn't want to wait months so I bought my own items. That gave them a boost in the rankings and one finally sold.

I wouldn't have minded taking my time, trying different designs while I work on improving my design skills but the Christmas season is coming up and I want to get as many items up as possible to improve my chances of making sales. Amazon only let you put one or two items up per day in the lower tiers so there is a time constraint.

I've also just started uploading to Redbubble which so far I prefer to Teespring. The upload process is easier and they have more products. I also got 100 followers on Instagram so I'm going to post a discount code for Teespring and hopefully get things moving on there.

The POD thing can be a lot of hard work and it can be hard to stay motivated if you're not making money for a while but I am still enjoying it so luckily I have managed to stay motivated.

Theres an absolutely fab FB group called Inkthreadable Hub. Its linked to POD supplier called Inkthreadable so I suppose it might be a bit cheeky to post questions if you dont use them. But they integrate with Etsy and Shopify so it might be worth joining to get a few ideas from other POD 'ers and consider if you could use them with etsy etc.

I'm still working on the POD thing. I've mainly been concentrating on building my Amazon account in preparation for the busy Christmas season. I had some pop socket designs that started to sell and that helped me reach tier 500. I'm currently trying to create and upload 400 new designs before the big Amazon shopping days on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It's been hard work but I'm hoping to finally see my work pay off at the end of the year.

I was just thinking yesterday, should i put up an ok boomer shirt? Just goes to show, if you do see a trend you should put something up as quickly as possible. I've mainly been focusing on evergreen designs that will hopefully sell regularly throughout the year but i should probably try to catch some trends because that does seem where the big money is.

It would be a good idea to come up with an original take on the whole boomer thing. It's mainly being used as a derogatory term though so don't know who's going to wear a shirt embracing their Boomer identity. I guess kids could buy them for their boomer parents though.

Print on demand is a great way to make royalties or extra money. Your designs are uploaded onto a site, the site then handles everything from customer service to printing the item out and then pay you a royalty for your design each time it's sold.

I'm not a designer!

The designs don't need to be complicated my dad created a series of text designs I Love NAME using some of the most popular names in the USA and made 100s of $. You could utilise money you make from text designs to hire a designer if you wanted or you can learn how to design using the many Youtube tutorials out there!

Merch By Amazon

Probably the biggest and the easiest to make money on as you have huge organic traffic from million of people! At the moment they have a waiting list so I recommend applying ASAP and as they provide a place to share your work I would sign up for another POD site before so you can share the link to your designs on there. You can view Amazon's design templates here - https://merch.amazon.com/resource/Y28FFE5NLRYJG4V

Merch by Amazon makes it easy for you to create, promote and sell your branded merchandise with no risk and no up-front costs. You simply supply the artwork, choose the product type and color(s), and then promote your products in your app, blog or on social media. Amazon takes care of the rest, including production, sales, shipping and creating a product page on Amazon.com - all at no cost to you.

Teepublic

I recommend you sign up here first - http://tee.pub/lic/juknZaWka4s - and get a few designs up before applying to Amazon Merch.
Hi Bobcat, thanks for the info!

Are there any sources you recommend for help/tips with this?- Websites or Youtube vids etc.

Have started this and made a whopping £1.68!
Hoping to get really cracking with it.

Cheers
Nate

Okay folks here's a couple of things that may help you out with P.O.D - Lisa Irby and Merch Minds Podcasts.
I listen on castbox - loads of others on there too. Let me know if you find any gems!
I like listening to podcasts
cause I can get other shiz done whilst listening or I can layback, eyes closed and absorb the info without burning my retinas from screen glare.

Hope that helps, any other tips welcome!

Cheers

Nate.

Just made my first sale on this today! Need to get back on it and put more designs on there! Got loads of ideas but not sure how to make them a reality. I can draw but not on a computer.

Hey well done! I'm still waiting to make a sale on merch. Made 1 mug sale on redbubble.
Would a graphic tablet be worth it for you, or scanning the pictures?

How many designs do you have up?

Congrats on your first sale. Which site was it on?
i couldn't even draw when I started so you're doing better than me. You could always do traditional drawing and then scan it into your computer and vectorize the image using free software like inkscape or gimp.
If you did want to learn to create designs digitally then you can pick up a digital drawing tablet for less than £40. I just picked up a copy of Corel painter 2019 for £20 in the Humble Bundle Black Friday offer and that is awesome for digital art. It has a huge variety of brushes and media types and will even autopaint a photo in your choice of medium. It's a great way to get creative with designs.

I wonder what those who get to sell on Merch by Amazon put on the application form where you have to tell them about yourself... I got turned down but will probably reapply ..but what to say??? Last time I put that I had some designs on Redbubble and I am an experienced ebay seller although not with tshirts but know a bit about keywording etc.

I read about people who search twitter for 'that would be great on a t-shirt' and then upload the tweet/image onto their stores immediately.

Find someone on Fivrr who can do that and then roll in with the big-bucks!
