Any Redbubble designers use Canva and GIMP to make a transparent PNG file?

So, I'm cresting a Canva design with a black background and white/green fonts.
When I upload to GIMP to make the image transparent - it seems to save my black background as a white background instead.
Any work around for this?

Also, does anyone know how to use fuzzy select in GIMP for a distressed/textured font design?

Fuzzy select is like a wand icon on the left.

Yes, I use fuzzy select. but when I export as PNG from GIMP - it's saving my black background as white colour instead.

So, the white font is on a white background. I don't know how to retain the black background colour.

Sorry.

Maybe try saving it as something else other than PNG. I think there’s one called EPS or something like that? Or XCF?

Could you make the image transparent before you upload it? I dont think the free version of canva has the transparent background option but the tenner a month subscrition does - last time I looked that subscription was on a free trial so maybe you could just use it for this design to see how it goes

I created a Canva design with a black background and light coloured font. Saved it as a PNG file.

Then uploaded PNG to GIMP, used fuzzy select to make the background transparent. Saved as XCF file, combined all layers, then finally exported as PNG (with retain background colours or summit enabled).

Seems to work.

Uploaded my first simple text based design this week, so looking to upload lots more now.

How is everyone doing with print on demand now that we are in Q4? I've only noticed a slight increase but there's still a few weeks to go for Christmas sales so hopefully things will improve.
Amazon Merch have introduced some new products. I now have throw pillow and tote bags and am interested to see how they do. I'm still in tier 2000 but am hoping to tier up early next year and with luck I'll see a decent increase in my profits.

Y know this tier thing? If you're tier 2000 does that mean you can have 2000 designs up?

Yes, your tier is how many products you can have up but not how many designs. So if you have one design you can put it on popsockets, an iPhone case, a Samsung case, a pillow, a bag and a t-shirt and that would take up 6 slots. If you want to list it in a foreign market like Germany that takes up more slots. So your tier is fairly important on Amazon Merch.

Does anyone know what the URL is so that I can log into my Amazon merch account, It's been a while so maybe they have shut it down.

hiya!! I finally made a start at this POD thingy!!
I was looking at this thread at it's begining I think and it's been an idea in my head but I've not been in the right place.
Over the last week or so I watched a few vids and got the buzz again.

I applied to Amazon so will see if I get accepted. I will look at a couple over platforms to upload some design to in the meantime to keep the motivation going.

Thanks to all who have contributed here as I have spent hour or so reading through and getting more confidence to go for it with each post. I often lack the confidence to do things and want to get out of it.... imposter syndrome is real gahhh

Congrats on getting started. If you do get accepted to Merch here's a few quick tips.
The Amazon Merch dashboard isn't that helpful. There is a chrome extension called Productor which is free and will help you manage your designs and monitor your progress. It also has a trademark check button which will highlight any words in your listing which are trademarked. Single word trademarks can usually be ignored but if you click on the highlighted word it will take you to the USPTO website where you can check more thoroughly.
When you are researching on Amazon to see if a niche is worth designing for the DS Amazon Quick view extension will tell you if designs are selling and how often.
If you have any questions feel free to ask. Merch can be intimidating but it's also a lot of fun.

thanks so much for that, I'll keep it for when I hopefully get accepted.

I had a look at redbubble and had a go there. I'm thinking of uploading to a couple more places and also looking into Etsy... I have an old store there but am thinking of creating a new store for POD bits.

@pecchy, tip for Redbubble - create a generic template design, upload it and refine your product placings. Then, for your next design go to > Manage Portfolio > Copy Settings ...this'll keep the original settings (just change Title, Tags, Description, and upload your new design).

Ive applied for Merch twice now and got turned down. CBA with it again.. I'm not that quick or clever with design. Seems random the way they accept or decline. Anyway here is a screenshot of something I saw on a POD forum which may be useful when applying 138915186_1937307219741360_1031419287989331690_n.jpg

Hi all!! Just wanted to say thanks for the tips on Amazon Merch.
I logged in to check the approval status and landed on dashboard so I have been accepted whoohoo!!
I have been so doubtful and half expected to see a rejection notice.

I'm going to decide on my first upload now.
