making an image clickable /linked

Hello
Blog so far has featured images but I'm just finishing a draft with an image within the body of the text and I cant work out how to make it clickable. Ive tried highlighting it and inserting a link but thats not working. Is there an easy way to do this (no idea about HTML so needs to be 'idiots guide to adding a link to an image)

When you add the image in in Wordpress you get this screen that lets you change where the image links to. Change it to custom and then insert the link

How would I get that to open in a different window? I know how to do it from the 'add a link' in the text body but cant see an option for that in the add media section

Add target="_blank" into the link code
