This is next to one of my lay bets on Betfair, for a Championship game - does anybody know what it means? Google didn't help much!

Cheers!

unmanaged?

You sure you don't mean unmatched?

You able to show us a screenshot?

Yeah the bet matched - it just says unmanaged next to it - I logged out to look at the match to make sure it wasn't just my instance of it, and it says that next to it even when just guest viewing

ok it seems there's nothing to worry about

this is the explanation I got:
Just to explain this, bets on the Exchange would be required to be monitored from your end in order to ensure the entirety of your stake is matched in accordance to the odds requested.

You'd be able to adjust your odds in order to ensure the entirety of your stake is matched.

Exchange bets can be partially matched as opposing customers would potentially buy in to only one part of your odds.

In order to ensure your whole stake is matched, you'd need to adjust your odds in accordance.

---

They went on to say that as my bet is fully matched, it's nothing to worry about

I think this might be something to do with letting a partially matched lay bet go in-play. If the game in question is not available to bet on in play it states "Instant Match Off" in Smarkets. The terminology used above seems very similar to this.

I have never had problems with the odds. The only problem I had was on Super Bowl last year. I have better on a team with a very good coefficient. I put that bet four days before the match. In these three days, something happened in one of the teams and the odds changed significantly. I already put my bet and I couldn't change anything. The coefficients also have changed so when I won I got a smaller sum of money than I predicted. I was very stressed when the match was going because I was realizing that I have made a mistake and I was risking too much money for a small win.

Unmanaged means that although the game goes in-play, Betfair do not manage the game. They do not suspend if a goal is scored or a player sent off for example, which they would do when they manage an in play game. It will be up to the backers/layers to monitor their unmatched bets.
Usually there is a more than normal spread between back and lay with the game in play and often not much liquidity . Care needs to be taken but nothing to worry about if your bets have already been matched prior to start of game.
