Hi,
I'd quite like to include motor racing in my MB activities. Does anyone have any experiences or opinions they can share with me please? Are there any bookies that are better to use? Anything I should watch for (like the rule 4 in horse racing)? I'm thinking of starting with F1 and then branching out.

Thanks

I've seen refund offers around for F1 so 'money back if your racer crashes out' type stuff

apart from that not really seen much to do with Motorsport

To be honest most of the F1 offers are the long shot 'if' kind - "Money back if x flag is shown x times", "Refund if x doesn't finish" etc.

From what I've seen on the periphery, the matches are never that close either so you're looking at bigger qualifying losses.

I never do any of the "if x happens" kinds of bets, in any sport, because generally only very rarely do they actually happen (which I suppose is the point so the bookies can just cash in on all of the money) and the qualifying losses can be a lot higher than for a regular football offer. So, even if you hit the refund/free bet in, say, 1 in 10 of those kinds of offers then your profit is cancelled out by the qualifying losses accrued on the other 9 and the time wasted spent looking for matches and placing bets.

I suppose if you're quite into your motorsport then it could be just an extra thing you do for funsies whilst watching a race, or maybe you have good knowledge of the sport and can calculate how likely the 'x' is to happen.

Thanks for your input on this, it's helped in my thinking. I know more about motor racing than football and have more of an interest in it which is why I was thinking of including it. But, I've had a good nosey around the bookies and exchanges this weekend for the Belgian grand prix and realise that on the exchange side, there isn't a huge amount of choice and not a huge amount of money in the markets. So, even if I want to make it a regular thing, my options will be limited. It will probably be an occasional bit of light relief from the football.

Having said all that........ ;D

This morning the odds were very close on Verstappen to win and Hamilton for fastest lap so I mugged both of them. As I was laying, the lay odds dropped on the fastest lap and I will be a few pence in profit on that one.

On the other hand, the odds also dropped as I was laying Verstappen to win but I ended up with 46p of the lay stake unmatched. I'm going to leave it for a bit and see what happens but I'm assuming that if it stays unmatched, I go to the tricky bet calculator, put in my back stake, the original back odds and the new lay odds and put the matched part of the lay with original odds into the grey box to calculate the new amount I need to lay?

Lewis Hamilton is starting from the back of the grid today and, if he's in the right frame of mind, he'll relish this challenge. I was watching the odds on him yesterday and as they were the same again this morning, I decided to break the golden rule and have a bit of a flutter, without a lay, at odds of 17 to win. I've justified this in my mind by the fact I've beaten my first month's MB profit target by 100% and I can reward myself for that.

Now back to the football!
