I'm new to matched betting and making my way through the Profit Accumulator tutorial. This morning I placed my £10 qualifying bet for the free £30 Betfred offer. Followed the guide, paced my bet with Betfred, then went over and placed my bet with Betfair and confirmed, but once I'd done it, it came up with 2 bets - a matched and an unmatched bet with the option to cancel the unmatched bet. This didn't happen yesterday so it threw me and I panicked and cancelled the unmatched bet. Now, when I look at my bets, I've only got an £8 matched bet with Betfair not, the £10.46 I needed. The unmatched bet that I cancelled was for £2.46. I know that I'll ultimately cover my losses on the free bet, but just wondered if it's normal for the Betfair bet to be split like that (it wasn't split for the Coral one) or have I done something really wrong?

This happened to me yesterday too and I didn't understand it but just left it and it worked out fine. You might need to change your bet as you won't be covered for the full amount.

Thanks. Problem is that I have no idea what to do in order to fix it, especially as the odds have changed :-\ I think that if I place an additional bet of £2.80 at the new odds, that I'll be fully covered, but not 100% sure if I'm calculating it correctly. I'm basically using the odds calculator, leaving the odds for the Betfred bet the same, changing the Betfair odds to the new one and typing in stakes until the Betfair stake is the same amount as the one I cancelled - does that seem right?

You should have left it alone

It more than likely will end up matching

In the future always look at the amount of money in the exchange (in the pink box you are clicking in) if it is less then you are laying there is not enough and some of it will go unmatched

usually an hour or two later it then just matches anyway

I realise that now. I just panicked as this hasn't been mentioned anywhere as something that might happen and what to do. I just saw an unmatched bet and thought that it wasn't right.

Should I place a smaller bet that gives me the same £2.46 lay stake in the odds calculator or just leave it as an £8 bet? It should have been £10.46 in total.

don't panic!

There's a handy calculator for this - it's called tricky bet. Google it and select the advanced lay calculator.

Put your total bake stake in and the back odds and the CURRENT lay odds at betfair.

Then on the right hand side put the part of the lay bet that matched and the odds it matched at.

It'll then tell you what to lay at the new odds to even it all out :)

As Jon says if you check there's enough money in the market first to cover the lay stake the bets will always be matched but it's good to know how to use tricky bet as it's handy to be able to fix a part matched bet.

Oh no, I can't figure it out! No idea if I'm filling it in right or which of the betting amounts I should choose. I'm trying to attach a screenshot, but I keep getting an error message. [member=143]auntygeek[/member] can you help please?
I placed a 10 bet with Betfred at odds of 2.64
I (mistakenly) placed an £8 lay bet with Betfair at odds of 2.64
The current Betfair odds are 3.1

That looks absolutely fine to me. So what you need to do is place a £1.83 bet at 3.1 odds.

Unfortunately it's a bit tricky on betfair to do bets under £2... You can do it but I think this time as you're new just place a £2 bet and you'll be a few pence over/under your original calculation depending on whether the bet wins or loses.

Thank you - really appreciate your help over the past couple of days. Hopefully, one day I'll understand what I'm doing and can help other newbies :)
