Matched Betting - Is it still worth it?

So I posted yesterday on the general MB thread to say that I am finally making a return to MB. I did a Gala Bingo Slots and Games offer that I received via e-mail. For a £10 stake I got £40 in bonus and the wager was x 20. I came away with £725 :)

I am going to use £500 as my bank. However, I was reading back some of the posts and it sounds like people are not quite so enthusiastic at MB as they once were. Talks of fewer offers and things not being worth it, time consuming etc.

So my question is, is it still worth doing MB? I suspect it is, but I only did it seriously for a few months back in 2015 and I'm not sure whether it has all changed and not as lucrative as it was.

I'm only really looking to make around £500 a month (obviously, more would be lovely, but £500 would make such a massive difference to our lives).

So bring me your enthusiasm and tales of MB joy!!!!

I did £600 last month just on offers (betting and casino). Still some of the (trickier) sign-up offers still to do, but getting there slowly.

Do the offers of free bets dry up after a while? There are only so many betting websites...albeit quite a few.

Good to know. It's one of those things that look too good to be true but from what I can see, as long as you put the time in it's risk free venture.

Cool. Do you mind me asking how long you have done MB? And if you had to guess how much time you put into it a month to make it worthwhile? Appreciate your advice.

been doing it a little over 18 months [member=5703]SomRed[/member] , made over £16,000+ doing which has paid for all sorts of fun things.

Time - Few mins a day, maybe 30mins on Saturday and Sunday when there's more racing / football one

It only takes as long to do matched betting as it does to place a normal bet really

How many bets per day are we talking as I have considered signing up to MB but I work a full time job so was wondering if it would clash at all

I just bet in the evening or lunchtime (few mins) during the week and at weekends I usually just place all my bets for the day around lunchtime

You can EASILY do it around a full time job, thousand do [member=5694]Romell[/member]

If you ask me this month, or last, i would say just about worth it.

For a beginner, i would not hesitate to tell them to jump in. It's a great bank builder.

I'm 16 months in (although i did do it previously a few years back) and now find myself with very little to do. The sports offers have pretty much gone and to make any kind of money now you are required to put in a lot of time. I genuinely believe a lot of people are lying to themselves or just don't realise how much time they have spent doing this. You don't make thousands of pounds a month spending 30 minutes a day doing sports reloads. Many of the big earners also use multiple accounts.

Once you've done all the signups and had a good few gubbings, pretty much all that's left to do is play casino offers and in the end no matter how much you trust the EV you could very easily be one of the many to go on huge losing streaks hoping to hit a big win to cover them.

The state of the UK gambling industry means taking advantage of any kind of horse refunds will give you a fast track to gub city with most book makers. These can make money, but only really happen on a Saturday and are NOTHING like they used to be.

Accas are still very profitable, and can be fun providing your not gubbed everywhere.

In the last 12 months it has taken a HUGE nosedive. It is still profitable, but you must now be prepared to put in a decent amount of work to get good money. For example, this month i have put more effort in than any other, yet i find myself around £140 down. Yes that's right.. i'm about to have my first losing month from 'risk free matched betting'.

That being said, a couple of hundred a month is still easily doable with limited effort for most people, and it certainly beats answering surveys.

Personally I've found my earnings have decreased. I'm still able to make £500 (ish) a month which I'm happy with.

I don't have multiple accounts and I don't want to spend hours as tbh it's a bit boring to me.

I think it is fair to say that starting out it is amazing and long term it is a nice amount of pocket money for a couple of holidays or towards a car. I doubt anyone will be able to live long term just on matched betting money.

How are you down though [member=1280]Stims[/member] ?!

Is it still worth doing? Yes, why not - it's tax-free money and if your target is £100-£200 a month then that should be fairly straightforward if you have an hour or two on a Saturday morning. Also it's very very easy in the beginning to earn about £800-£1000 because the new account sign-up offers are basically mostly straightforward and are very profitable.

That being said....it is certainly not like it was this time a year ago. The sports offers are almost non-existent now, and there has been a noticeable shift from the standard 'bet x get x' to 'get a free bet if this very unlikely event decided by very intelligent traders happens'. Speaking of which, I was sent a tweet last weekend from a betting tipster that showed all of the specials/price boosts offered by Skybet that day...3 or 4 of the 80+ offers had actually come off. Traders are smart cookies. Maybe it's something that will change next season - there's a lot of talk of bookies having to be conservative this year to scrape back some of those big losses from Leicester winning the league last season. We can only hope for better offers coming soon!

I think the promises of "spend an hour at the weekend and easily earn £500" is absolute BS. The only way to do that now is from a combination of:
- Doing very risky slot offers (fine if you don't mind risking your money - sometimes it pays off)
- More sophisticated MBing (accas, horse racing refunds, however nothing has restricted or gubbed my accounts like horse racing )
- Multi-accounting (illegal, many people obviously do it and then claim their monthly earnings are just from one account)
- Putting more time into it

So yeah you probably will earn £500 a month easy for the first couple of months whilst your sign-up free bets are rolling in, but long term it's not that easy anymore.

[member=920]katykicker[/member] is right - it's a good little source for a bit of extra cash, maybe to save up for a holiday or to help boost your savings, but you cannot live on it or use it as a source of income unless you put a shitload of time and effort into it.

If someone disagrees with me and can tell me how to 'put an hour a week into it and make £500 a month easy peasy' then genuinely please do a blogpost because I'd be genuinely interested to read it. Something with a breakdown of time/offers/profit would be an interesting read.
