Update

It's been a challenging month with laptops and trying to earn online.

My laptop hasn't been charging properly - taking aaaages to charge.

For backup, I have a second laptop - really old one - but the wifi for it wouldn't kick in. It's a longstanding problem where the wifi just drops and I have to reconnect it, which usually worked. However, a few months ago, it just wouldn't reconnect, but I didn't worry about it too much as I had my newer laptop.

I was leant a Macbook a few days ago (as neither laptop was working) which was a godsend. Weird, but on the day I'm due to hand it back, all of a sudden, I wasn't able to access Google on it - and then a bit later, I couldn't access the site where I do most of my proofreading.

I'm back to the laptop with the taking-ages-to-charge. I'm trying to manage it the best I can as I can't afford to fix either one of my laptops or buy a new one.

To save on the battery, I plan to use it strictly for work, shut it down and charge it when it's not in use. It also means I'll have to really streamline how and when I work online.

I refuse to be defeated and though it's frustrating (and worrying because I could really do with the money I earn online), I accept the challenge of making the situation work the best I can.

I also plan to ask around and see if someone (hopefully) has a laptop I can borrow 'til I can afford to fix one of the laptops or buy a new one.

So that's that. :)

Congratulations on your earning power, I've been following your thread with interest. I also signed up to textranch as it seems to serve you well, so hopefully I get a chance at it in the near future :)

I had the same problem as you a few months ago, except my laptop wouldnt charge at all. It was on the charger for direct power and I had to have it an exact way to turn on (move at all and it went off) bad times lol. Good Luck with it all!

@jonv21: Hi. Thanks for following my thread and for the congrats :)

I hope you do get into TextRanch.

Sorry about the laptop. I can imagine it was annoying. Did you manage to get it fixed?

Eventually, I think I'll sell or exchange this laptop for a more resilient one. I just want a basic laptop that works. Is that too much to ask?! Lol!

Update:

So the good news is I NOW HAVE A COMPUTER!!

I asked my landlord if he had one he wasn't using or knew someone who did, and he had one!

I'm so grateful!

It's a lovely computer too that seems pretty robust - a desktop.

He said I can have it for as long as I want, so I plan to keep it for the rest of my life :p.

Lol!

I kid, I kid!

Hopefully, I should be able to get myself another computer in a few months. My laptop's working but it would have been tricky trying to work on it for a considerable amount of time with its faulty battery/charger. Now I can relax and work without worrying about that. :)

The only thing is the desktop doesn't have Microsoft Office (I need Word and Excel), but it's cool, I'll just use my laptop for that; I don't need to use Word or Excel that often.

So, yeah, now I can really get back into the flow of things. :)

@misseb Thanks and yeah really annoying, used it till the death. Now its under the bed and got a new laptop, paid for by surveys, etc. You can pick up a basic laptop new for fairly cheap and used for even less.

@jonv21: It's great you were able to buy a new one with money you made online :)

I plan to buy a basic one 'cos that's all I need really. Just one that's functional and will last me a while.

Update:

I want to make close to £500 online this month to pay most of my bills. Anything more than that would be great, but something in the high £400s would cover me for most bills.

So far, I've made about a quarter of that.

Time to really put my head down.

I'll mainly be using a combination of proofreading and MTurk to get there (I'm an intermediate MTurker with 5000+ approved tasks).

I feel like it's a matter of positioning myself better, so not necessarily working harder, but working smarter.

I plan to make a proper note of proofreading workflow. I also plan to observe when there are more tasks on MTurk for me and when my favourite tasks tend to appear. I also want to use scripts more often.

I can do this. I almost did it last month.

I can do this.

You are doing really well, and it's so lucky that your landlord could lend you a desktop computer! I've had a little lull this month so far in terms of quantity of work, especially now that I did all my Christmas shopping, but want to push myself a little and see what I can achieve over the rest of the month!

I had a little set back this month, with TextRanch not getting back to me after I did the test (assuming I failed lol), and getting rejected for a job, but even more determined to think laterally about how to do things I'm good at and get paid for doing them... :) Good luck! :)

Thank you! Yes, very lucky! He just happened to have a desktop he wasn't using! I'm so grateful.

It's great you've gotten your Christmas shopping out of the way :)

Still a lot of the year left, so you have time to earn lots more. I hope you can look at where you are and look back and see your growth from when you started earning.

All the best finding things that align with what you're good at and getting paid for it. That's the sweet spot. :)
