Finally decided to take FIRE more seriously now i have no intention/desire of working till I'm dead i have been slowly building up a share portfolio since 2016 and when the market crashed in 2020 i decided instead of buying individual shares i would play it safe and purchase ETFs instead.

So to cut a long story short i will be documenting my progress here to keep me motivated I will update monthly. I am happy to talk about investing but i don't recommend any shares as i am not a professional most my knowledge has been gained over the internet.

2022 Targets
Portfolio-£45,000
Dividends-£1000
Crypto- £600

Good luck and keep going, I have been following this path for 10 years and prior to that, I was just saving normally. The dividends for the last year haven't been great but that has to be expected.

Thank you! and I'm hoping this year for a increase, last year was terrible.

Also if you don't already, you should read a blog called quietly saving. A UK fire blogger.

Thanks i already follow many FIRE bloggers including quietly saving, i find some very misleading about information though and have been stung with a few losses on shares they have advised.

Back when the pandemic first hit i had a over a £7,000 loss on my account happy its now up!

I personally do not buy individual shares, I stick to cheap trackers. I don't think you should ever buy according to tips, by the time it's published it's probably already peaked.

I avoid it

I don't see how you can have a currency that you can't realistically spend and the constant dips up and down is ridiculous its all hype.

Yeah, I agree it's quite volatile, but it does make it good for trading, so I quite like the volatility.

Crypto isn't for everyone, although I do think it's here to stay, even if it does change a bit. Too many big institutions in on it. I reckon Bitcoin will fall from its height (not right now) and other cryptos will take the lead.

Are you not concerned about the stock market, as apparently the housing market is due to crash again soon? If it does then that will be good for crypto ..... but not for you .... eggs all in one basket .... springs to mind.

I'm not looking to upset you. Maybe you haven't given much thought about the above. ;)

Btw, I'm not looking for you to sign up under my affiliate links, (re my thoughts) it's just a genuine authentic post.

Might have misunderstood what you were trying to say but the stock market and housing market are not the same thing, a housing market crash may not necessarily affect the stock market.

Hi Sherliarty

I tried leaving this until the morning to reply, but my head is just not going to let go until I reply.

The housing market and the stock market are interconnected. Think back to 07/08 when we had the financial crash it was linked to the housing market. Mortgage backed securities, tranches and exotics - you might remember being mentioned? Although it's been a pet interest of mine for many years, so maybe the public were not aware of those words.

Apart from history, there are a number of financial analysts predicting a financial crash. You might have seen a number of video's about it on Youtube? The psychics are also predicting it (I know it's not for everyone but I like to keep an eye on it all ;) ),

I'm no expert in the Crypto market, I'm still very new to it myself and I have a lot more to learn. Although if I was in your shoes, and I was to move a percentage into crypto (my percentage would maybe be a lot bigger than yours) then I'd definitely buy -

Ethereum 40%
Litecoin 40%
Theta 15%
and Dodge 5% (to be converted to Theta once it hits $4ish).

That's not financial advice just what floats my boat from my research.

Of course it's all an individual choice. The crypto market is away to start moving up at the end of the week. It's away to start rising again.

You know, when your reply came through as an alert on my phone the T.V. programme The Drop kept flashing up in my mind, the part where she says 'move the money', 'move the money', so I had to fire up my comp to reply. Now hopefully I'll get to sleep.

Good Luck.

I understand what you mean relating to the 2008 market crash but as seen with the COVID pandemic countries like America will put money into the market to stop it sinking crypto on the other hand they won't and until it is accepted universally by countries it will have no use (apart from buying drugs).

Personally i think at its current state it will never become mainstream and the rises are just artificial blown up by people like Elon Musk. I do think there is money to be made but its too risky for me i am no expert though i do have friends that have made money from it but i have heard too much stories of people losing thousands.

What cryto investments do you currently have lily? and if you don't mind me asking how much money have you put in?

Yeah, that stimulus cheque is away to come back to haunt them. I see they are on their 4th stimulus cheque. Its money made from nothing. Once everything starts opening up and a return to near 'normality' particularly by the end of the year then we'll start to see the effects of some financial decisions.

On my Crypto, I have done what nobody should really do, I've put everything I have into it. A couple of thousand approx. I'm stilling buying when I can. I'd put my shirt and pee into it too if I could. It's not really in my character to do that, but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity (I do other things too) and if I don't buy now the market will be too expensive for me (and many others) to get into it once it lifts.

For example, I bought Theta for just under £5 (£3.58 on currently writing) if that goes to $40/$50 (£28/36 approx) I'm expecting it to go to (soon/months) then it would make it more difficult to purchase in the future. I believe Crypto is here to stay, but I'm only staying in the market until the end of 2022 beginning of 2023. 21 and 22 are good years for Crypto .... in my opinion.

I really want to trade crypto and I will, but there is more I need to learn. Now I have more time to myself without some negative influences around me I can now learn what I need to know. I have mainly been concentrating on buying it with the market having crashed. In the crash money could still have been made. I could have multiplied my crypto.

To answer your question - I have Dodge (I'll definitely be getting out of that as that bubble will burst) and Theta and Zil. Ideally I'd love to have Ethereum (£1,408) and Litecoin (£92.59). I did have some Litecoin, but I converted it to Dodge just for the short-term. Hopefully buy more Theta and Litecoin later, particularly if trading it. I believe Theta will be big. Bitcoin doesn't interest me even though it's the market leader. Something is going to happen with Bitcoin. I will need to buy some to buy One Harmony at some point but other than that I have no interest in it. I agree Elon Musk has a control of the Crypto market, but I don't follow what he says, but he does have influence that's for sure.

However, it's really up to people to make their own decisions, and of course I have made mine.

Good Luck.

P.S If you are interested then CoinBureau on Youtube is very good. Plus read a Crypto beginners book. You need to buy NOW if you really want into it - just my thoughts.

Thanks for the information lily always good to expand my knowledge. The only crypto i would have invested in was Ethereum that seems to have the biggest potential but I had the opptunity to invest in 2017 and didn't.

I hope it goes well for you and I am really interested to see how you do so keep me updated!

If you do have money invested in the stock market I'd strongly suggest you watch this very recent video just published. It's very informative. He is very easy to watch. 32 mins watch can be a long time. First 15 mins will be enough to cover some of your questions above. His suggestion right at the end on protecting assets I'd probably go with silver more than gold.

I'll not be putting up updates on my portfolio, but you can keep up to date with the latest prices online.

Thank you.

Gave it a watch well on and off kind of just feels like scare mongering and speculation people keep saying there's a market crash coming every day. i have 25+ years still to go in the market and i have other assets this is just another way to get me to retire early.
