How do you all keep track of how much money you've earned through things like apps and surveys?

I have a very simple spreadsheet I did, but somehow I feel it could be so much better.

I've looked online and can't really find what I want

Tried to attach a pic of my current one and doesn't seem to show me it

What features does your current spreadsheet have now and what features would you like it to have that it doesn't?

For tax return purposes I just lump everything together since HMRC don't care where my money comes from just how much the total is.

Really it's just a list of all the sites/apps/things I use, then a total next to it of how much I've earned from it that month, then every few months I lump those totals together.
E.g. July 16-July 17 total amount from each site. And then I have the total overall that I've earned that month.

More for my own interest rather than HMRC

yeah mine is just for my own purposes as well really, just so I know who has paid me what.

Interesting. I've got expert level excel skills so next on my to do list is a bunch of macros and reports to track my ventures. But I don't know the basic tax rules yet. These show 40% but if someone earns say 40k in a full time job, I presume the first few k from 'other sources' is 20%. In fact if the full time job amount is based on income after pension etc, it may be that 40% is even further away??

And, there's no NI in this graphic? Am I missing something?

Lastly, I presume some deductables eg if I made £1000 from jobs where I drive to obtain that income, can I declare a lower figure?

Driving is 45p per mile claimable if that helps. The tax rules are complex, you get about £10K tax free then a certain amount at 20% then over about 40K is 40% ish!

They're a nightmare. Fortunately I work for/with HMRC every day so ugh abuse that occasionally by getting some of their staff to tell me what I should be doing!

Very thorough. I can see you are tracking vouchers. It is clear with Amazon vouchers, but what about Nectar and Tesco?

I run a log of loyalty points collected but just so that I would not forget (no debit/credit logging), but when I book a flight with Nectar points, I just record the lower price paid. What's you method please?

I don't track Vouchers, That was payment from a voucher company for a Sponsored Post from memory on the blog. I don't do any surveys or anything that like that pays me in 'points'. I just earn from Blogging and Risk Free Matched Betting these days.

Ah, I see. That clarifies. I went through some old posts and admired your stamina doing text message surveys, in thousands!!! Omg.
I've never done text message surveys so you are either thinking of

63336, that wasn't surveys via text message. I was paid to answer questions that people text in on my laptop - https://blog.themoneyshed.co.uk/working-for-63336/ (paid in cash and used to earn just a huge amount of money from it each month)

Or it was FoodToGo where I sent a text whenever i bought a sandwich or something like that that paid £5 a week in 'points'

Yes, I thought it was texts with 63336 as you spoke about limits to monthly unlimited texts. Sorry if it was something else?
aye that makes sense. It was literally just sat on your laptop answer questions, used to enjoy doing it and a few around here still do it as well

Did I hear someone having expert level Excel skills? Think we would need your help in designing such macros to track our incomings and outgoings ;)
Always available. Knocked my own up in a couple of hours. Nothing fancy, but allows for minimal inputs. Going the full monte with arrays, macros, validation and security etc is always an option though

So mine basically allows, per earning type (eg Roamler) to capture each job on a log per tab. A summary sheet compounds it all.

Per sheet basic inputs are eg date, gross, effort, tax applies?, units (of the job type completed) etc.

Output are tax due, net, effort per hour (gross/net) etc. It's good to see total true profit and also eg rates per job, per app and overall.

I also track his satisfied I am per job type to reflect back on which I like doing. I'm trying to net £10/hr + on jobs I quite enjoy, but £15+ on ones which feel like work.

Also holds credentials per app (encoded of course)

Most of the sites and apps track what you've earned so this is easy to dump into a spreadsheet.
