Multi Level Marketing is a great way to distribute goods and services and a great way to earn an income. Do you know more people get rich through building a successful multi level marketing business than in any other business. It does take a great deal of effort especially in the early days. But it can give you the life style you dream of or wish for. My greeting card business is MLM business, but I have contacts who are involved with other MLM businesses. If anyone wants information about Kleeneze, FM Cosmetics, Avon, Pampered Chef, Phoenix Cards, Wikaniko ECO Friendly Products, just let me know.

are these things 100% commission based in the early days? I imagine years ago before Internet marketing is what it is now that going door to door selling this stuff must have been one hell of a challenge.

Ha ha yes Jon for the early pioneers of Networking it must have been hard although many were former door to door sales people so guess they were use to it.

Things have got better the support and training people get now is fantastic. So much support. Stuff to download and print off. New product launches throughout the year to keep the choice of products fresh and new. Great personal development support. So many ways to retail, in Phoenix at least 3 different income streams in other opportunities can have as many more. Support from a Head Office, support from a local network and support from other fellow Network Marketeers from other MLM opportunities. ;D

MLM is just like a pyramid. It's always crowded at the bottom with people trying to fight their way up, but it get's tighter the higher you climb and that's the world of multi level marketing for you.

I know a young English fella who's very switched on, has been in online marketing for just three years and now generates a five figure monthly income. He built up his email list doing informational videos flogged a few solid products and is now involved in a huge MLM business called "The Empower Network".

I personally don't like it or things which are set up like this, even although he's made a ton of commissions from it. He's had many people signing up through his link which makes money from his every growing affiliate family tree. I liked his stuff prior to his latest product push, but for me he lost all his previous credibility in pushing such a product.

MLM you start off at the bottom step and you can if you wish, and are prepared to put the effort in go up to the next step, then the next and so on. There is no fight to get to the top, because each of us have own steps to the top of our business. I am a Phoenix Trader, next step up for me is Senior Trader, then next one up from that is Executive Trader, I can only achieve this by helping my team to become successful and help them up their first step. Each level gives more opportunity to earn more. Plus there is always lots of help, support and training. MLM is an exciting industry to be in and is helping many people around the world to a better life.

I did have a look at Empower and have been approached a few times about this, but it's not for me.

This is definitely not my experience and MLM is 'NOT' a pyramid. You find them in Eygpt!

Tehnically speaking it's not, but I've always seen MLM as having three points to it - The vendor, the person in the middle (affiliate) and the buyer. I don't really like MLM as a vehicle for trying to make money like "The Empower Network", but each to their own.

so, completely Randomly a mate at work met his Mum for lunch and I walked by them. He knows I do a LOT of earning from home type stuff and his Mum does Utility Warehouse as an income.

She was telling me all the benefits of doing this commission based work and must have used the phrase 'it's not a pyramid scheme' about 5 times in the conversation.

I can tell right off the bat these sort of 'franchises' are just not for me

Empower Nework is a scam - no question.
All those expensive "packages" that you have to buy to progress and the constant calls to "Go all in" and calling you insulting names if you show any degree of caution.
Just read the angry exchanges in the comments to this "scam review" post >> http://onemorecupof-coffee.com/empower-network-review/
Some further warnings here >> http://waystoavoidscamsonline.com/the-empower-network-ripoff-dont-buy-into-the-hype

I am not keen on MLM either. I did try a few, Neways, Forever Living. Then also Cabouchon Jewellery which then made a few changes so I never bothered after that.
You have got to be able to sell and recruit new people for MLM to work and to make profit from it.
I prefer just to be paid on my own effort and if I was going to sell things I would rather sell my own unique products then get full profit without another company taking a big cut between the wholesale and retail price which is what these MLM companies are doing.
There is so much competition now anyway with people being able to order on line from a shop and get discounts and free delivery and things which you aren't able to offer as a Distributor as if you do you don't make any money on it.

Can I ask

How much money did you sink into your venture with MLM before bailing out?

Think there maybe was a registration fee which gave you a basic pack to get you started so it wasn't as though you were paying and not getting anything for it.
Think in the end I covered what I paid out and made a bit above that. It was such a long time ago.
There was a travel one too can't remember the name of it now but that changed and everyone I knew who was involved in all started leaving and went onto something else.
The way rules got changed made things harder.

I remember going to a conference in Glasgow many years ago and the company called NSA (I think) were pushing water filters.

They had this leading marketing guy who had gained a directorship with the business and was making about £150k per annum and he was the carrot for everyone else to aspire to. It was quite clear about the MLM thing and how the pyramid works. The guys directly under him were management type figures and he made commissions from their sales (first tier) and the people at the bottom of the ladder, the sales advisors (2nd tier), so he had two strong commission sale funnels in place. It was little wonder that, he was trying to get people on board :(

Offline MLM has now been replaced by online MLM and unless you're in a high place on the pyramid then, you're doomed to fail IMO!
