Anyone else seen this on Facebook? I follow the page of the person who did the shop: https://www.facebook.com/couponmumuk/?ref=ts&fref=ts

News article is here: Mum-of-two pays for entire £1,200 Tesco shop with coupons and donates to charity

She said she used a total of 423 coupons! I only thought this sort of thing was possible in the US...

I think it's amazing! Apparently she got most of the coupons by writing to companies and praising them on their products (plus sending in some drawings her children did!) - anyone else tried this before? I still don't know how she got 200 packs of sausages though XD

I like that Holly donated it all to charity too, but it just isn't really a realistic food shop is it :D

Didn't it take 6 hours or something to do? Worth it, obviously, for the amount saved and to donate to charity, but not like any ordinary person can apply and get 200 vouchers for sausages...

Guaranteed that this is a 'special' trip as it was for charity, as the majority of the big supermarkets would not allow this for a regular shopper. I worked at Asda when I was a teenager and they only let us accept coupons for up to 15% of the total cost of the goods being purchased.

Still impressive, mind.

I regularly use vouchers at least 50% of my shops. Once per month I save up my vouchers (Tesco Orchard, Bzz Agent, manufacturer vouchers, ones that come with freebies etc) and then I use special offers + combine with a money off shop voucher.

It's usually about £25-40 a month, not a huge amount, but I stock up on bits for hampers and other people (+ a local raffle a charity has a few times a year) but then again it's probably 10-15 vouchers in one go, not a lot, and there is ALWAYS one that doesn't want to work and I end up queuing at customer service and wondering if it is worth it ;D ;D

I think, despite my scepticism that you could get the 200 vouchers from one company, that it is fantastic what Holly is done and I'm sure it is perfectly possible to collect that much value of vouchers over the year, as I don't even contact companies (besides applying for freebies/tesco orchard) and I don't do bad. But it isn't always essential items, might be feminine hygiene products, toiletries etc, all items that may be needed but not necessarily the brands that I buy with the vouchers. So I spend 20 minutes a month sitting down going through, giving away rubbish ones I won't use and looking at special offers. Anymore than that and it wouldn't be worth the effort for me.

I bet the cashier loved having to put all of those coupons through. She did well to collect them all, it must have taken a lot of work.

That must have been hard work! I can't imagine collecting that many especially within a certain time limit (pretty sure they have expiry dates?).

Good on her. I've had two mass lots of vouchers from wins, but I've never been just given them. Mind you, I did spread them out, because I couldn't get 52 tubs of ice cream in the freezer or 100 tubs of yogurt in the fridge in one go, let alone eat them before they went off ;)

Not realistic for average Joe and Jane but it was done for charity rthat benefitted everyone.

I know she does this despite having some significant health issues, so good on Holly.
