Been really busy at work etc this week and have spent all my spare time planning my blog. There is so much to decide and do that it's overwhelming, so I'm just thinking about one little bit at a time.

It may take me months to get there.. I am thinking I have 4 stages to get through:
1. Core content (eg the about section) and design
2. Important content (excluding blog)
3. Blog posts ready for launch day
4. Social media

I am very firmly planted in section 1 at the moment and am determined to do all this properly.

So having a few health problems from basically trying to do far too much and never, ever getting any down time. Attempting to slow things up a lot and not done much money making this week.

I seem to be developing my blog/site on a slightly random basis rather than following my expected set stages I had laid out before. It seems to work well at the moment and since there are months of stuff to do, it doesn't really matter what order I do it in. Today I seem to have wasted about an hour just setting up a twitter profile image that I liked and then managed to activate the site email address. Still looking at a way to show the social media follow buttons in the exact way I like.

Still everything to do really... content, social media platforms, design of the pages, blog posts etc. The content isn't taking me quite as long as I thought to set up, but the design predictably takes forever!

Correction: Now figured out how to put my social media buttons in how I like them. One item off the never ending list!

OK.. so, this is going to be a bit of a change in my journey.. having thought of an idea out of the blue, it seems to be turning into a full blown website business idea and has a bit of a mind of its own. So I am parking most of my money making activities to set up my website and then will probably get back to some of the other stuff. At the moment the website is monopolising my time.

So... where am I? Well a long way off yet. I reckon it could take me about 3 months to develop everything I want and then launch. A week and a half in I have:
- developed a logo
- created the right look to the site that I want (including theme) as well as the tone I want to adopt and now need to roll it out to all the other pages
- have tested some key plugins.. (I must have downloaded about 40 different ones, but deleted about 30 of them after I trialled them and decided against them)
- set up a twitter profile
- put in some test content to play with
- finished the profile/about us bit of the site and started writing one of the other content pages

So next up, I need to roll out the right look to the other pages and crucially spend time getting the functionality of my key page just right. I actually have functionality on two pages, but one of them is key and the other shouldn't be so difficult.

Once that's out of the way I can plough on with content. However, I keep finding I do need to make some decisions earlier than planned. For example, when thinking about the functionality of my page I do need some idea of how I want to monitize it now and potentially later as it will impact the way I set it up now.

Lots more to come... stay tuned!

Oh yes - I only do things when I want to and I know this is a long project. At the moment I am very motivated, so been doing quite a bit. Feel a bit more relaxed now it's starting to look a bit more how I want it to look. That's the fun bit!

I umm'ed and arrrr'ed about when to submit my sitemap for Totally Blogging to Google Webmaster Tools because part of me knows the longer you leave it the further down the track you are with waiting for Google to index / rank your site but if you do it too early then you risk not having enough content and being indexed or someone stealing your idea before you really have got it off the ground!

Bit of a blow, but I realised that none of the plugins are going to work for my site and short of spending hundreds for something that may or may not work, I can't follow through on my idea :(

can you not reimaging the concept you are trying to do?

What's being the deal breaker here? What plugin is it you want that costs £££?

Not really - there's nothing even vaguely close to what I want to do. There's a plug-in that might work but it's going to be $100-200 port year as it's a subscription. And until you try it, You're never quite sure if it'll work or not.

I did try thinking about doing it on multiple instead of one plugin but it's the key bit of functionality that I need and I can't recreate. Plus not sure it's a great idea to have that many plugins for one thing

So you are going to have to give up on the entire site now then?
