Finding January difficult.. so much going on. Also need to stop obsessing with my mortgage spreadsheets and playing the "what if" game with it... the mortgage is such a monster that little seems to make a difference. Need to concentrate on the small things and hopefully it will start making a difference.

Toyed for a while with reducing my pension pot to pay down the mortgage much quicker, but came to the same conclusion that I don't have enough money in my pension anyway and delaying it whilst I pay down my mortgage (which is on a very low interest rate) is probably something I would regret. Will reassess again before my mortgage is renewed halfway through the year when hopefully I have less going on to think about.

Falling a bit behind this month. Started a bit of matched betting this month, but not doing enough - mainly due to time constraints. Also need to find some time for other activities as doing a few surveys isn't going to be enough. Found a few items I don't want anymore to sell on eBay and only listed one so far, so also need to get them on there.

Going to keep struggling on and see what happens this month!

Just over 25% of the way to my Jan goal of £400 (£109.51). Fingers crossed for some good eBay sales to get me over the target!

Been slacking a bit... got the January blues and everything seems really difficult at the moment. Thought I would challenge myself today to making (not necessarily having the cash) £50. Overachieved and was done well before midday! This is what I did:

MB (casino deals): £14.15
MB (casino deals, +EV due to topcashback due): £34.57
Onepoll: £0.95
Viewsbank: 50p
Enlightly: 30p
Usertesting: £7

Total earned: £57.47

Looking forward to seeing some of that cash next week... now just need to get my act in gear everyday!

I've decided I am sick and tired of spending any time I have on top of my full time (not really 9-5) job trying to make extra cash. So as a result, I am going to divert any cash this year towards paying down as much of my mortgage as I can (including cutting expenditure where I can, temporarily halting my extra pension payments which I need to try and retire before 65 and basically anything and everything I can get hold of).

Hopefully I can make a significant dent in a year which should bring down my mortgage payments and interest significantly so I can go back to my overall aims of retiring early (which does require paying my mortgage early too) and hopefully think about a bit of a more relaxing life! As I will have to eat into some of my emergency savings, I will also need to put some savings back next year. As a bit of an experiment, I'm going to put my totally risk-free free casino spin winnings into a separate account this year for my emergency savings. I'm interested to see what I will get to by the end of the year. I have £24.90 for Jan.

Also hoping to get a pay rise somehow with my main job to help (if I get it, it will all be diverted to the mortgage). Working on that...

Haven't updated this thread for a while as been so busy and as usual always seem to be having some sort of major life dilemma where I need to make choices, but am struggling to.

Considering the uncertainty I have about what is actually going to happen with everything and my usual struggle of the question of pension versus mortgage repayments, I decided to write down my dream position each month for saving, pension and mortgage repayments. As they are basically impossible unless I was paid hundreds of thousands a year, I took the percentage each of these made up of my dream and am applying it to any extra earnings.

That way I can see progress on all goals and stop the usual dilemmas of whether I risk having a lower emergency fund etc to pay down the mortgage quicker. Plus I have a bit in there for my own spending so I can actually enjoy myself as well!

Will see how it all goes! The latest survey site to get the boot was valued opinions. I find their surveys a bit boring and these days they seem to require I answer a million questions before telling me that I don't qualify for the surveys anyway. Definitely not worth my time and effort. Only spending time on a few these days, but as usual I like to try absolutely everything first. For example, this month I restarted using Shoppix and downloaded Receipt Hog and some others. Not sure whether they are worth it, but I like to check for myself the effort versus actual payment first!

I am sure I will boot out some more apps and surveys in the next few weeks.

I enjoy following your journey and we can always relate to what other people are going through. A small part is knowing what you want to do (which you certainly do!). The hard part is carrying it out and ofcourse not trying to think too far ahead or overspending/overcutting.

Been a very long time since an update... so much going on in life and on a bit of a money making journey at the moment.

Need to have a rethink on what I am doing and get back into it full scale next month/Jan, but at the moment I need to seriously review all my key bills etc and start switching them over to save cash... have taken my eye off the ball there! Plus I hate life admin :)

Car insurance done. Mobile and electricity are up next. Already using as many cashback methods as I can for anything else.

On the plus side, I did manage to pay a chunk off the mortgage recently. 5 figures are looking so close, but yet so far! With a bit of luck, I may be able to make it in a years time and then can relook at whether that gives me enough leeway to cut some working hours.

Crikey! Sounds like you have got a lot going on at the moment. Getting your mortgage down to 5 figures though is ace!!

What are the things you are looking to start in January then?

Well I've tried most things, but need some focus instead of doing a bit of this and a bit of that. Have not yet decided exactly what my split of stuff will be going forward. Will have a nice break from it all and then come back with a fresh mind. Already dumped all surveys a while ago though.
