Hi Pixie, I'm interested to see your relatively good return from the online testing sites, UTest, Appen etc. I've spent February concentrating on getting into them as that looks the most interesting area of income generation. But I have generated nowhere near as much as you have. The big issues are not getting invitations to the tests and then when I do get them, by the time I've clicked on the link, they have already gone. For example I got one for Validately this morning and by the time I'd gone through the set up tests it was no longer valid. So my question for you and the other online testing experts is what tips do you have for increasing the number of jobs I can get sent? I have signed up with just about every site I have seen mentioned on TMS.
There is couple reason you might no get much invitation.
I don't know if you have passed the sandbox or uTest university yet, if yes, then here is might be the reason.
I think the most important is you did not have much device to test with. I have one iMac, one macbook, one ipad mini. iphone 6 and two android phone I'm able to test with. But is not about the amount you have, also the type. Generally speaking, it will be ideally have iPhone 6 or later, iPad with 9.3.5 or later, Mac OS 10.11.x or later, Windows 7 or later, android 6.0 or later, and other android system like google phone and chromebook. Amazon kindle Fire will be handy but it is not much show up. More type of the device you have will increase the chance for you to get invitations.
Another thing is you are not quick enough to accept the project, I still will get sometimes that they have enough people accept the cycle and it is not available for me anymore.
The desktop project is the most popular (most invitation sent) but it is rare have one without any setting re. If there is a slot sheet for the test case, it normally very limited and takes less five minute to be full after the invitation email sent. (However the project shows on your utest platform will be early than email.) I learn the most by couple very big test case, worth $40-$80 per each, but it will takes hours, one of them tooks me at least 4 hours on the computer. Because it required around 150-200 step to check. Even you did not catch the slot, if you do meet this kind of project, check the test case document. The document will give you a idea what is customer looking for and also at the similar form, what situation to check with. For the desktop project, once it comes out, it normally very popular, it is better to start to do straight! For the website project, it normally have more bug on Phones, so even I'm out, as long as I can sit in a cafe, I will try to catch some bugs.
I would say Android and iOS system roughly gets the similar amount, iOS slightly more. Android system also prefer more popular or new device like Samsung Galaxy or Google Pixel 2.
Also, I found out that most of the project start from Thursday to Sunday. I often gets couple just before the weekend and it active through weekend. The best time for me to catch up with projects is Friday night to Saturday morning, So I often stay very late (4am) from friday night.
For this month, I have not put a lot of time. (I have stared lionbridge) But I have catched couple big Test Case. Also, try to focus on the project with bonus.
Anyway if it is your first month, don't rush. I would suggest you accept every cycle no matter you have time to do or not, because once you accept, you will able to see other people's bugs on the platform. When all the bug been approved/reject, it is the best to learn what is the most valuable also how to write it as well.
