Never Spend a £2 Coin Again

An addictive way to save without really noticing it.

Buy yourself one of those sealed coin tins from the poundshop and pop in every £2 coin you get. We did this last year and within 11mths, had saved almost £1k without realising it. We re-started after we got back from holiday in August and roughly calculate that we have about £480 in already.

One thing is it become totally addictive and you'll be swapping them just so you can put another coin in.

Yeah me too!

Also from time to time if I've managed to scrape five together I send them to my God-daughter in an attempt to make up for being a rubbish Godmother the rest of the time! She lives miles away so I don't see her often enough... :-[

That is pretty good. I don't really spend cash so don't often have £2 coins. Nice idea though.

I don't often carry cash either but there are still some stores in my area which are stuck in the dark ages and don't take cards. The change I have from my purchases at these stores goes straight into my piggy jar. Last year I'd saved £546.78 to be precise lol.

That's brilliant, I do something similar where I empty my purse of all the 10ps, 20ps and 50ps every few days and bung them in a tin. No idea how much is in yet.

I am liking the £2 coin idea - a friend of mine saves every £5 note she gets! She's obviously got loads of money to be able to do that!

Love challenges like this. I do the £1 per day, £10 per week and a slightly adapted 52 week challenge.

Also have a jar where I put what would be the price of my last drink on nights out in.

I just wanted to update this.

I emptied my last tin at the beginning of August, just before we went on holiday. I've just transferred the contents of the one I've been using since to a much prettier one ;D, counted it up and there's £592 in there.

That's a lot of money that I've never missed having.

I began doing this a while back. I noticed a pile of £2 coins at a friend's house and thought it was a great idea, but I've often ended up doing the tin raid thing. I must say, seeing how much you've saved up has inspired me to start doing this again. I'll have to be strict with myself and make sure I don't dip into it!

This sounds like a good one. I already save all my coppers and occasional silver but it takes so long to get anywhere. II never thought of dong t with 2pound coins tho. Must get one of the non opening tins tho, or it will be pointless.

Yes I also save all the coppers and 5p's but it takes awhile to get a decent amount. It sounds a good idea to do that with £2 coins and to use a sealed tin so you don't end up using it.

I like this idea and it makes perfect sense. I have a shoe box in my back bedroom and put all my 1, 2, 5 and 10p coins in it. It's amazing how quickly it's fills up (usually about £50) and I take what I call the junk money to the amusement arcade on the pier once every three months. Any £1 coins I win I keep and either take home with me or go to the nearby pub and have dinner and a few drinks with my wife.

Ah I have tried this many a time.

But I seem to fail everytime and it ends up like this:

This is a really neat idea, which I am going to start doing. It just involves having a bit of self control when it comes to being a little short at times, but I'm hoping it will work out really well

I did this, except with 50p's. Managed to save around £50 which was quite nice.

Yes its quite surprising just how much will fit in one of those tins even the small one.
Although I have never managed to fill one due to my lack of will power, I have been constantly surprised with just how much comes out of them.
