I think I have some kind of idea about what I'm going to do but would be interested in anyones thoughts. I bought 2 packs of new sealed pokemon cards at the weekend and wondered if you would sell the packs as sealed or open them and sell some of them individually / in small bundles.

I don't know about pokemen specifically, but for things like this in general my rule is if I can make a good profit on them sealed then I would sell them sealed rather than take the risk of opening them and not having any desirable ones and them staying on ebay at 99p each for ages. Logistically its easier to seell them in one go too. One listing and one trip to the post office and done.

You could take the chance and open them up, you might have one or two rarer ones that will more than cover the cost of the whole pack, but be prepared to have lots that have very little value on their own.

Yes, they're crazy prices! Daughter's got some rare shiny ones that she looked up and are worth silly amounts 'IF' you can find a seller willing to pay. She priced up her collection at over 2K based on the prices on ebay.

This was my thinking especially as the packs aren't exactly old packs so can't imagine there's anything massively valuable in there. The main thing which got me wondering was the one visible card in each deck - both of them are holographic cards and one of them on researching is one marked as a rare one (worth about £2 according to eBay completed's hehe)

They were only 50p a deck so nothing really to loose either way :)

Daughter said open them and check for rare ones. Some rare ones can sell for hundreds of pounds, apparently. I guess you have to find someone willing to pay for them though.

I know there's some particularly valuable ones but I'm guessing these would be in the older packs - these are much more modern (only a few years old).

I have to admit there's a little nagging voice saying open them, open them...

I think this is it - having the valuable cards and a buyer willing to pay :)

My daughter's cards are from the 1990's and she's kept them in folders, so they're in perfect condition.

After a week of umming and aahing I opened them and I'm fairly sure they're fakes (all be it very good ones). They're all holographic cards including secret rare ones and I'm fairly sure they were never packaged as all holographic cards new.

I'll double check later through some guides but I'm about 99% sure.

If anyone is curious I open them in this video - the new ones are towards the end (I picked up some more today but used this time!)

Oh well!

I bought a pack of boosters for my son off ebay that were undoubtedly fake - caveat emptor!

Some of the fakes are really good - the one's I had I wasn't suspicious of until I realised they were whole sealed packs of holos (which you would never get) so started looking into it and they showed every sign. I started speaking to someone in the comments of the video as well which confirmed it once and for all.

I've been reading so much about how to tell they're fake now so I can spot the fakes much more easily.
