Newbie questions!

Hi, I have always played with the idea of a blog but have finally pulled my finger out and got started. I had played around with wordpress.com, but wanted to host myself so went through viahost and have my domain name, now the bit where I'm struggling.... to link to my blog, I can't seem to download wordpress.org to my MacBook pro so what should I be doing?

Also my son (11) has some great ideas for a blog/vlog but I am no help, so if there are any pointers for that I'd be grateful!

If you are wanting to be self hosted then you need to buy hosting as well!

Otherwise all you are doing is buying a domain and pointing it at your site

Unless of course you HAVE bought hosting as well as if so @rachaeldee go on live chat with vidahost as they can help transfer it over

There are a couple of steps to starting your own hosted website, but it's really simple.

Firstly, you need to buy a domain name, which you've already done.
You then need to purchase a hosting package. This can usually be done through the same company you bought your domain from. Hop on to live chat and they'll help you out.
You'll then install Wordpress for your website, and will be able to start creating your page.

So I finally took the plunge- I bought my domain name, hosting and now...I have no idea what I'm doing! So it's slightly more complicated than I thought it would be! My first issues is how do i link my domain name to my hosting site?

1&1 for hosting and I got the domain name through name cheap.

right ok, I'm assume you went the route of have 1 provider for the domain and 1 for hosting due to cost.

You will need to point your domain to the hosting companies nameservers.
