Yes, I agree - just care less. You said that you have offered to help already and that they rejected this, so focus on what you are being asked to do and hold your head up high. I do get that this is not easy when you are in the situation though. Have you thought about applying for other jobs?

Well I wasn't before, but I am now. I think this has tipped me over the edge.

aaaw, I am sorry to hear that . Whatever you do, I guess it can't hurt to update your CV and have a look to see what else is out there. I would strongly advise you not to let anyone at work know/see that you are upset, so that if you do leave (or stay) the attention won't be on you.

I used to care.

I quit my job because I cared.

Either stay and don't care. Like most people do.
Or leave.

But if you leave, just know, that for whatever reason you left, the business will carry on.
And someone else who doesn't care will take you job.

So either leave on you terms, get your ducks in line, get a plan to get out.
Or stay on your terms. Care less. Do less. Like everyone else.

I'm not you. I tried not to care. But I did. And I quit.
What I can't say, hand or heart, is that that was the right choice.

Only you know what is right for you, and I wish you the best in whatever you choose.

Yes, I have tried not to care before at other jobs, but I just can't do it, it just isn't me. Anyway, I decided to speak to the person above the manager and managed to do it in a sensible way (I think!). Not entirely sure it changes anything, but he did get it and did already know there was some level of a problem. If nothing else, it made me feel slightly better.

The secret to beating office politics is contracting.

Weirdly, companies who pay a person a salary rarely care what they have to say. They could be the most experienced person ever but they will still decide to do what the boss suggest as they all want to

A) keep their job
B) 'respect' the chain of command
C) let their boss carry the can

Being on a salary means you have to have appraisals, you get pulled into all sorts of pointless shit and you have to deal with office politics.

When you contract you leave all that behind.

They pay you JUST for doing a job. You go in, do the job, you leave. They also pay you to listen to you. If they choose not to, that's their choice but strangely they consider a contactors opinion much more valid than an employees, just because they are paid differently.

I've worked in some places (NHS) where it's been nothing BUT contractors and at times that's been the absolute worst!

Huge disconnect with the work they are doing, always thinking about moving on, decisions are never made with long-term objectives in mind. It's hard to plan even 3 months ahead when you don't know if most of the staff are going to be there!

Still, the pay you get in insane lol

but no office politics!

They aren’t responsible for long term strategy/objectives (usually) and a normal contractor is paid to do ‘x’ and that’s it.

Part of me would love to be a contractor. But the other part of me loves the security of being a FTE!
