As far as I know I have started. I have been doing the work and recording it on the time sheet, but I received an email today saying there was an area where I could practice so I don't think I was supposed to start when I did. I'm not too worried about it, once you're in it's fairly straightforward.

So little update:
I had an email from Appen saying Congratulations and that I was on pace to start qualification and that someone would contact me on the 26th.
Actually had an email on 25th and read through all the material and completed the qualification quiz (20 questions).
Logged in today to see there was a SOW that I electronically signed and there were then further documents for me to read through but I'm not sure what happens next?
Does this mean I have been accepted for the work? How is the software added to your account to start the rating work?

Hi there,
Yes it sounds like you have been accepted for the work. Someone should be emailing you soon. I can't remember exactly but I think they prompted me to reinstall the messenger app on my phone. They will send you instructions on all of this.

Just looking at the Appen site - was just about to tick interested in crowdsourcing, transcribe, social media evaluator and websearch evaluator...but thought I would be best popping back here to see if anyone could explain them a little more. They do sound fairly self explainatory but just in case..
Crowdsource tends to be working as part of a project that they bring thousands of people on to do the same exact task. In the past it’s involved talking into your mic to help Google Home
Transcribe - dictation work
Social media evaluator - helping to improve social media results
Web search evaluator - helping to improve the results you get when you search on the web

I got it too and also got an updated one which listed more places including Yorkshire (not at all vague, eh), Leeds, Northumberland
i received an email about a transcription project in Edinburgh where they wouldn't tell you the address or pay for flights and accommodation. I scored over 90% on both their screeners but got rejected anyway due to the negative baby boomer employer mindset of only wanting perfect candidates who can do several jobs in one for low pay

The payment for this project is AUD $25 and will take approximately 1 hour 45 minutes to complete.
The work involves listening to different UK English machine voices, and rating them based on how natural they sound, as well as providing written feedback.

I said yes to the listening to machine voices project and then they sent me a short voice recording job to do as well, think it's only US $5 but was really easy and only took 15 minutes. Haven't heard back about the voice listening one yet though.
