Have you managed to find an E/W Bet yet? I'm not with Bet365 but have had an email from PPower to say that they are offering SIX places - most seem to be doing 5 from what I've seen so far.

Are people just doing E/W Bets on the 'xx Place' offers then - and picking a different horse for each bookie offer to cover as much of the field as possible?

On Betfair you can actually bet on 4, 5 or 6 place markets. Smarkets just has 4 and 5, however in both cases other than the 4 market, the others have no depth.

The more place markets aren't any good for the likes of us, unless a rare profit appears, we need that extra place to come in 8)

I've just got my B365 bets on. Actually didn't find doing it as hard as I thought. The odds aren't the best and I am sure there could well have been better matches but I just wanted it done!

I'm ending up with just over £90 profit so I am pretty pleased with that. Makes up for the fact that I can't do anything tomorrow.

So the place 4 market has a lot of people betting on it, which means there is a lot of money in the market (shown by the small numbers under the odds in the betfair and smarkets interface), while the place 5 and 6 markets have less people betting on it, which means less money in the market. If those numbers are below the amount you are trying to lay, then your bet won't be matched, which means you run the risk of your lay bet being unmatched.

It does however look like the markets are a bit better this morning for place 5 so you could attempt that.

Well, the more place markets have lower odds which mean better matches, given most of my QLs on the bet365 offer are £10+, if I could have taken lower QLs I could have guaranteed a higher profit, but without the possibility of getting the extra place to come in for a bonus.

Possible Silly question alert! Looking at doing some EW on Grand National - S Markets have a section for Top 4 and Top 5 places - am I right in assuming if book maker is paying 4 places I use that section for the place bet and equally if paying 5 places (or more) I use the Top 5 places bit for the place bit of the lay?

Ideally yes, and you'll get closer matches that way, although if Bet365 are paying 5, and you lay on the place 4 market, if your horse comes in at 5 you get paid out on both the bookies (as they pay to 5) and exchange (as they only pay to 4).

Anyway, I want to put a bet on the GN today but I don't have any free bets - what's the best way to go about it, please? Obviously I'll match it, but should it be with Free bet SNR on the calculator, with odds of at least 4.0? Also, which bookie is it best to go with or doesn't it matter?

I got the winning horse too, except I needed the bloody thing to come 5th or 6th. I fully laid the win and normal place part so I gained nothing at all by having the winner :'(

Did anyone manage to hit any big wins?

I covered the field on the 5th place and overall made about £400 (most of the field was covered on already gubbed, but not stake restricted accounts)
