Can anyone help here please? If I placed a £5 bet at 5.5 odds how much should I have won at the bookie? It was a free bet. My maths tell me it's £22.50 but the bookie paid less than that. Or is there something about horse racing that I'm not getting?

If a horse is withdrawn before the race, it means the remaining horses have a better chance of winning - consequently a Rule 4 is applied which is basically an adjustment of the odds based on how much they think the outcome of the race will be affected (The favourite being withdrawn will have a bigger impact than an outsider being withdrawn). However, as long as you have laid your bet before the Rule 4 is applied, then both the bookie and the exchange will adjust the odds relative to each other, though it may result in a smaller profit margin if a free bet.

Betting on the horses is generally more complicated than betting on the football for multiple reasons - while PA don't make a 'thing' of it, personally I think betting on the horsies is only something you should do if you are already fully confident with MB.

Hi all - newbie alert.

So I've been reading through the original thread before joining the forum (I saw PA online elsewhere so already signed up) and had requested to join as I had an offer of £5 casino free from coral that I wasn't sure about. Well patience isn't my strong suit and so I vaguely remembered what Jon has said about minimum stake and maximum lines...somehow I'm over £180 up on there now and as my first win was low, I've already wagered through it seemingly so going to withdraw the £180 and guess I need to mug like hell there this weekend. Currently completely shocked but will dutifully log the £180 as a manual adjustment on ultimatcher.

Really enjoying the forum as it's full of useful information.

Eu up @mucktub86 (fellow Leeds person here!)

I would say with a casino win you don't need to mug. Bookies understand variance happens, that's not the case with sports bets so I would happily just withdraw it and enjoy your amazing winnings!

Ey up! Can't beat a fellow Leeds dweller!

Oh didn't realise that! Since I only started on Sunday (and made a n00b error so screwed up getting my free BF bet), I don't think I'll be enjoying it as such but sticking it it the exchange.

Have to admit this matched betting lark isn't too bad though, work has been busy so I've only placed things Sunday/last night with SJ then done this free casino play and I've got £200 profit. I can see why the slots were so popular...no idea if they still are, I'm way behind with the orignal post

Honestly the whole Matched Betting thing is just so easy - It's just the same bit of math on repeat over and over again.

You're right, I'll admit I was dubious but I figured I could afford to try it for a month and see what happens; I'm glad I did! Even though I'm a new member today, I've been reading the forum whenever I get a free minute so thanks for all the information that's in the original thread as well as this one, it's really helpful.

Hope everyone has a good weekend with their bets.

Lis :)

Just had a £1 free games bonus on Ladbrokes, first spin hit a bonus round and got £12, not bad (although not as good as yours @mucktub86 !).

It all adds up though!

I think my good luck has ended though as now got a real headscratcher with the Beteast offer. Deposited £20, ran the odds through the calculator, put in the stake amount and Smarkets has only taken the liability from my account (£8.23) and not the full £29.37 I was expecting.

Snip of the calc below if someone can make some sense of it for me?

ETA: Maybe I'm overthinking it a little or had more in the exchange than I thought o_O

Err, are those odds right

That is quite a profit from a qualifying bet

See, luck is changing. It's the beteast offer on PA. Don't want to post too much info here as don't want to get in bother over there :/

I've not looked at that offer yet, I think you may be better off asking in the PA forum

I have done, thanks though. It never twigged it's a qualifying bet but I read the instructions 3 times before doing it and that's how it came out.

Thanks for your answers @Hivenhoe and @Pbrail . I had a look and it turns out there was a non-runner. I have checked the exchange and the lay odds have changed as well just like you said so in the end I made a bigger profit than I thought I would. £4.51 profit from a £5 free bet :)

Now that the football is coming to an end I need to start betting more on horses so I'm happy this came up and I learned something.

Well been while since I did any match betting for various reasons - though did do little bit on Grand National - want to get back into it but most of my accounts haven't been used much for few months - do I just jump straight back in or will that seem bit odd to bookies?

Well that's £800 put down on horse refunds.....

I always feel I have more chance of hitting refunds on flat racing than I do during the bloody jumps season

Two qualifying bets done today, two free bets to come tomorrow, hopefully. Just pants that both bets won at the bookies and not the exchange so will have to wait for the money to clear my bank account.

Hope you're all having a good MB'ing weekend
