Can I ask what does it mean then when it says the rules don’t match ?
What they are talking about is what constitutes a valid match if one of the players pulls out part way through due to injury. Some bookmakers need the whole match to be completed otherwise the bet is void (such as Bet365), others (and this applies to all the exchanges) only need one set to be completed for the bet to stand. So if you bet on player x @ Bet365 and lay @ Smarkets and he pulls out injured in set 2, your bet is voided @ Bet365 (money returned), but the lay bet @ Smarkets is still valid so you lose that.

As Bet365 has 2UP this is the one used a lot, but you are taking a big risk if you lay it at the exchange. Therefore people are advised to use Dutching where you place a back bet on player x @ Bet365 and a back bet on player y at another bookmaker that also has the same rules (a draw is not a possible outcome as one player always goes through).

Oddsmonkey has a list of all the different rules, and also a tool to find Dutch matches - not sure what PA has these days.

Do a Google for "Tennis Betting Rules" and you will find a few places

So far I have not place bets on Betfair/Smarkets etc only laid them. Is it worth doing that or will then be stopped as they know I match bet. Obviously I would not lay at the same companies exchange.

@Karonher - someone at OM recently had their 0% commission removed for doing small back bets with Matchbook as this was seen as 'trading' apparently.

I have done the occasional back bet as I was totally unaware that this was seen as 'trading', not knowing anything on this subject. I will not be doing any more now that I do know, whilst having 0% commission.
I naively thought that the exchanges did not care what you did.

If you do 2UP and cash out early they allow for this (and perhaps dutching too) but it is definitely a bit of a minefield by the sound of it!

I think backing and then laying on the same thing (particularly horses) will be seen as trading. Backing something and not laying it will probably not. As both MB and Smarkets have 0% then if you do want to do this then use one for the back and use the other for the lay.

Only seen one Ashes offer so far (William Hill) that can wait til nearer the time. It has to be all about the golf this week until the racing at the weekend & maybe something on the African Nations Cup Final on Friday???

Are there any restrictions when it comes to betting on the golf like there seems to be with tennis

Ie: tennis rules don’t match etc etc

My experience has been that the rules have generally been the same with the bookies & the exchanges however, I would recommend checking the exchange rules in terms of how the deal with ties.

I'm not sure if there are any lists but below is a link to an article about how bookmakers tend to deal with these situations although it is a little out of date now

Withh regards golf matched betting, the oy time I ever had an issue was at an independent bookie shop when a minor tournament was washed out by rain after 2 rounds. However, I won both the back and lay bets! But it's not an issue in terms of different rules being a problem for matched bettors.
