Hi @Autumn500 - found a calculator and got the same figures as you for laying 4.1 Can't see how to fix it via the calculator I have as no advanced section to it.

My suggestion would be to do another Lay bet for the 22p difference BUT I do not think you can do that at Betfair (it has to be a minimum of at least £1 or £2 I think).

Like you say, it should only be a few pence difference to the result, I think. Perhaps others on here will confirm it for me :) @Jon perhaps?

For the future, are you signed up with Smarkets and Matchbook to get the lower 0% (currently) commission. Also, the commission rates are changing at Betfair but if you have just joined it MIGHT be better to stay on 5%? Perhaps there is a thread on PA about it for you to check it out?

Thanks for your help @Knopfler -I am signed up with the others but as i have done a lot of offers this week i need to wait for them to clear so i can get money transferred out of Betfair and move to one of the others-i had been putting off using the others because i am comfortable with Betfair but i think that's the wrong attitude!

When you talk about the Betfair commissions changing, is this the 'rewards' thing i have seen flash up on the site where you pick a reward to stay on (some seem to have lower commissions, some higher). I have been ignoring it but maybe i need to get the finger out and do something with it?!

I have been doing MB for 3 years now. I have used Betfair 12 times this calendar year and the last time was in August. With Smarkets and Matchbook doing 0% commission, and the increase in liquidity that has meant, they have been able to expand the markets they cover. So now it just doesn't make much sense to ever use them. I have opted to go with the default (they are defaulting to the 8% band by the way) as I don't care about the commission rate nowadays and would prefer just to get any 'specials' they offer instead.

Another draw to Betfair is that because it was bigger it seemed there was less chance of there not being enough money in the pot to cover lays on certain events-from what you are saying it sounds like this is all changing which is great for customers as the more choice the better! I will definitely venture to some of the 0% exchanges once I have some of my bank money back in my account!

Off the back of that-do people tend to keep a kitty in their exchanges or do they just deposit as and when? I have quite a chunk in Betfair as was sick of running out all the time!

I typically have at least £1k in each of SM and MB. I will only extract from the exchanges if the total in both goes over £3k (or need the money in an emergency)

That’s very impressive :) how long did it take you to get to that point? I’ve only been doing it for around a week so not at that level yet lol

You will. All of us get there at different speeds, but I was at that level about 9 months in, after my first Cheltenham.

Hi @Autumn500 - sorry for delay in replying. Yes, that is the one I was on about. Whatever option you go for, you have to choose your package by the 22nd October 2019

I know this is MB thread, but have people have had success with betfair trading?
I tend to think it's akin to a zero sum game. A bit like active fund managers in the investment space - unless you know something the rest of the market doesn't.

However, one angle I've found is trading on popular matched betting boosts. I'll write a full website page on it soon.

Appreciate, research needs to go into it!

However, i am considering trading the over 1.5 goals market and trading the liability when there is a goal, or cash out.

There are sites out there that look at the % of how likely there is going to be goal, or two.

There are some good stats sites out there. But I always ask myself "what do I know that the market doesn't?". Information is generally priced in to the current odds. Wisdom of the crowds and all that.

Good point!

To beat the market, i would need a high strike to cover the loss, so game selection is key.

True. A lot of trading is essentially gambling. Bearing that in mind, I must admit I do occasionally go "team X look a bit short priced, I'll lay a small amount on them". But are they really short priced? The market says no, so how do I consistently beat the collective wisdom of exchange users, smart money from Asian bookies, pro punters etc.

Generally you don't. Czech Republic v England 2-1 not a big surprise maybe, Czech Republic v Northern Ireland 0-3 at half time a big surprise, having said that laying NI then and backing again at 2-3 may have given some value - but how do you know. This weekend some of the big teams will be underpriced as a lot of their players will have played internationals and be tired, but knowing which one(s) it is will be a bit of a lottery

Looking at all the games that got announced today for Boxing Day on amazon prime I’m expecting the day to be full of offers as it seems a pretty big deal / people stuck at home in front of the tv!!
