This is a great thread.
I have a lot of free time now and from reading everything, this kind of thing I could do.

If there's any further tips for a complete newbie who knew nothing but the company names before this, please let me know

I applied for Lionbridge and have been offered to do the exam I've read so many comments saying it's hard to pass and a lot of people fail jt! Is it really that hard? This would be a great opportunity if I could pass it x

You'll be fine....

Just read the guidelines when you get them, take your time and don't rush it!

I did the exam recently, and all I will say is read the stuff, take your time with the practice questions and refer to the guidelines. It's a bit brain numbing but once you get going it gets clearer. I rushed and was busy doing other things, so wasn't paying attention and failed. My own fault entirely; had I applied myself it would have been fine and I wouldn't be relying upon Appen/Leapforce coming back to me!! Good luck. You'll be fine.

HI lovely peeps, I messaged Lionbrigde a few days ago to see if they had any uk jobs as there were non in the job section. They have just emailed me back with link to apply for internet assessor.
Looking at the description of the job it sounds quite daunting.
What's the work like?
Is it as scary as it sounds?
And in the previous work experience in the last 5 yrs what should I put? As I've been a home carer to my son with complex medical needs the last 5 yrs, the 3yrs prior I was in uni on work placement and prior to uni I had 3jobsat the same time for 8 yrs . Does it look bad being a home carer ?
Many thanks :)

I would only enter the work related stuff that's relevant on the application

By the sounds of it the work is web search evaluator work which is the same as this

Hey, Yanina!

I have worked for both Lionbridge and Leapforce in the past and would recommend Leapforce better (pays a bit more hourly - at least a couple years ago).

After applying, if they are looking for internet assessors they will send you their guidelines and you will have to complete a theoretical test and a practical one online. If you are successful, at the beginning the job mostly consists of evaluating search results in terms of:
- Is it close to the user query
- Quality of landing page content
- Flagging the URL for porn, spam or malicious content

Eventually, you will have access to more task types, from the top of my head: evaluating translation accuracy, evaluating voice queries (if it was recognised ok), evaluate images and product (shopping) results... Some of these tasks are very easy going and can be entertaining.

hope that helps!

Started with Leapforce yesterday on the Nile project. Is it literally just reviewing Facebook ads? Seems very simple...

Hi everyone.
I have been working for Lionbridge for about 3 months now as a Side By Side Judge. I have had a nightmare with it to be honest, I just wondered if anyone else on here is doing the same job and how they find it?

Many thanks
Kay

Hi @Kay Ashton

What issue are you having with doing the tasks?

Hi Jon,

Crikey, where to start!? I have been doing the role since about August. There is a plethora of info and guidelines to take in, and they have these wonderful webinars that you can attend weekly, and you can’t attend, they upload them to the website anyway for you. All good.
The problems I have encountered (and wondered if anyone else had, too, hence the post) is with the quality metrics you have to try and keep on top of. You have to process a certain amount per hour, also have a certain quality standard and if it goes below their minimum then you can be taken off live judging and have to requalify again. I know this can be standard stuff with this kind of work, but I wondered how others balanced out the quality and quantity aspects to keep working? I feel that if I take my time to get it right then the quantity per hour suffers, so if I try and speed it somewhat then I am in danger of the quality side of things sliding. It’s a delicate balance, I know.
I just wondered if anyone else on here works for them and how they find it.

I COMPLETELY understand where you are coming from @Kay Ashton

You want to get those tasks done in the allotted time so you can move onto the next one but it's hard to do that when you are second guessing yourself the entire time

All I can say is that you WILL get quicker at doing them. After a few months I Was doing the tasks I knew without any trouble at all.
I think it's easy to worry as the result of marking things wrongly is that you use your job but then I guess sitting there doing nothing isn't going to earn you any money from Lionbridge either lol

Thanks for that, Jon. I shall bear with it, that’s all I can do. But you are right, speed does come with time and experience doesn’t it. We just have to crack on!

Whilst I have your attention, I just want to say how much I love this site, to say it is useful is an understatement! So glad I found it, and it’s even better because it’s UK based, too, most of the ‘work from home sites’ are US based which is helpful only if the companies mentioned are global.
Thanks again, Jon :)

For all working on the Nile project: make sure you complete the tasks via the Facebook app! I got an email about a week ago saying that they are looking to exclusively do it via the app and would be chucked off if not!

If you have a wireless keyboard, I would absolutely recommend connecting it to your phone to complete the task.

Hello all,

I'm currently completing a Lionbridge application and they are asking me to add every bit of work experience from the last 5 years as separate entries. It also says to "Please account for any time where you were unemployed, travelling or studying."

This seems super intense to me. Has anyone else done this? How deep did you go?

Don't know if I can even remember all my jobs for the last 5 years they've been so sporadic.

Do I include things like Appen or best to leave that out?

Also... the vast majority of my jobs have been cooking and catering based so highly irrelevant for this kind of online work!

What do you think? o_O
