Am so sorry to read this.
Do you have any idea what you are going to do. We went through a restruture in 2011 I think it was and it took a right toll on a LOT of people!
Thanks, Jon.
To be honest I'm disappointed, but relatively chilled out about it. I have been working at the uni for over 34 years, and I'm 57. My wife took early retirement 2.5 years ago, and I have wanted to join her ever since.
My plan was to retire in October 2022 when I turn 60, as a lot of my pension would be unreduced. I have been piling money into AVCs with that in mind for 2 years.
I am easily the most experienced and qualified for the promotion posts (I have an MBA and around 25 years in supervisory/managerial roles). All things being equal I would get one of those. But my closest rival is 15 years younger and has been networking furiously for the last few years, whereas I cba with that crap.
I also have the option of asking for voluntary redundancy of 9 months salary tax free, and can get my pension, but the pension would likely be heavily reduced for early payment. If this was in 18 months I would be begging to go.
As it is I am going to ask for voluntary redundancy on unreduced pension, which will almost certainly be refused. I will also apply for higher posts. Worst case scenario is getting neither and being dropped down a grade, but still getting same salary for less aggro. Then after 2 years I retire 6 months earlier than planned and live off savings until 60 when I claim my pension. Matched Betting paid my mortgage off 5 years ago, so no worries there.
