The test I just did was pretty gruelling, i had to test the same flow on 28 different versions of a site, of which certain searches ALWAYS failed, irrespective of the version being used. The TC payout isn't great, I'm hoping the bugs I submitted will make up for that though, it took me over 3 hours!

EDIT: However seeing payouts like this makes it all worth it, highest payout so far, not the best month though, first 1/2 wasn't as good.

[member=928]askgar[/member] , well done you.

I got very lucky recently, I got invited to a few cycles with $45 test cases where I could claim as many as I had the environement for, over a 2 month period I think I did 15 of these cases and they've been approving a few every week. 6 or 7 of them show up in this payment.

What is the highest number of active test cycles that you have participated in in one ago? I have turned a few down lately as i can't cope to be honest. I want the money though and the other thing how does one know that a particular cycle has test cases? I think I may go for those were I have high chances of earning money and if I do any exploration and find acceptable bugs it's a bonus.

1) I was in 7 or 8 test cycles at once in my early days, it was too much, pick a few and focus on those (unless a very lucrative one comes up, if I see something with a $30+ TC that looks relatively easy I will jump on it, sometimes it works out, others not).
2) Each test has a type, if a test has test cases it will likely be "Exploratory and Test Cases", this doesn't however guarantee you will get a test case, or if the test case is worth doing (I've seen some cycles with a $2 test case solely for gathering the registration details of people, but the cycle is otherwise exploratory only).
3) Sometimes a test won't explicitly say there are test cases, but there will be a google doc with steps/pages in that can be claimed, and a $ bonus for people who complete each step/page, this is basically a test cases but not explicitly mentioned.

I was in 7 or 8 cycles over the weekend & probably rejected a similar number. I would probably avoid being in any more than that. Some had been ongoing from earlier in the week so I was pretty much done with them. Some were regular ones I've been on before & know well & try to always participate in. The rest I worked through one-by-one: I'd join one, put in some time & when I think I've stalled on it I'll accept the next one. It's much better to reject a cycle because you know you haven't got enough time to do it justice than accepting then not participating. Participating could get you onto the core team of testers for that client which may mean more test cases & less competition for bugs later on.

Sounds very much like my weekend, I had so many invites come through. I think I worked through everything I could so was happy with that, I did reject some that I like doing but sometimes it just isn't practical to do everything.

Rant warning! I really hate it when people use the +1 feature to say why they think a bug is out of scope. What difference does it make to anyone else? It's up to the TTL/PM/customer to decide. If I see an issue which I think is as designed or out of scope I just ignore it. Luckily, both times this happened to me recently, the bugs were approved.

That's ridiculous, I don't think I've ever seen that, it completely goes against the point of the +1 feature.

Only noticed it twice on my own issues in over 750 reported. Two different people on two different projects. They will have had a ratings boost from it too!

Feels like a way to get a boost if the issue was in scope, and feel smug if the issue wasn't in scope. Scummy thing to do!

Also, 750 issues reported, that's impressive, how long have you been testing for?

[member=580]Genie[/member] , cheeky people are everywhere. ...lol....glad they were proved wrong, hehe... I finally managed to have one bug approved as some what valuable, apart from surveys this is the hardest $8 I have earned . I see myself in training, I know I have potential to do well but it will take time. Thanking you all for your support.

[member=580]Genie[/member] thinking back, your post has reminded me of a time early on in my uTest membership when someone went out of their way to send me a private message on uTest to tell me they thought my bug was out of scope. I of course ignored their advice (the bug was approved) and replied with thanks for the advice, then closed the chat.

Yes, I've had that before too, & again had my bug approved. I ignore it unless it is the TTL from that cycle that suggests I think again.

Agreed, although once I did have that from the TTL on the bug directly, I again ignored it as I was 100% certain it was a valid bug, it ended up getting either Very of Exceptional approval a few hours later from the customer.

Has anyone else found themselves getting cycles on uTest that are almost like mystery shopping, I've had a few now that are only tangentially related to testing software, and more around the experience of having to do something in a shop, or with customer services.

I have been enjoying utest, although it has been taking up a lot of my time! I have found myself declining more and more test cycles lately.

Test history shows that I now have a silver rating. Longer term, I hope to be able to learn more so I can start testing in some of the other categories

I also have a load of bugs in pending status at the moment, so hopefully they work out well.

Definitely a good source for an extra income.

I did have a bit of a problem the other day though. PM had previously asked in the chat that anyone with a specific bug should raise a bug for their device. TTL thought that one of my bugs was an unusual one and asked me to raise a bug with videos (due to the differences between Firefox & Firefox beta behaviour). I later realised that although the TTL had asked me to raise a bug, there was already another another bug raised (same bug, different browser). Due to the TTL specifically asking me to raise a separate bug, I messaged him in the chat for clarification. As he had previously asked me to raise the bug, I then raised the bug report, but intended to remove it if he messaged back asking me not to raise it. Unfortunately, he didn't reply until the cycle was closed, and in this reply, he changed his previous advice and instead advised me to +1 the report (which I did, and this seemed the most logical course of action), and he obviously no longer wanted the two Firefox comparison videos etc etc.

I am now unable to remove the bug report because the cycle has closed. I have messaged TTL, politely asking him to remove the bug report, but I don't think he can even see my messages to him. I have edited my bug report to simply say "Please remove, this bug is a duplicate.." etc etc, and have removed all the bug details, but am not sure how else to proceed. The bug report is currently pending, and I would rather not have it rejected and for that to count against my rating. At the same time, I don't want to include in the bug report the details regarding my conversation with the TTL as that wouldn't be very professional. Frustrating. Any suggestions?

[member=928]askgar[/member] , yes I got them as well but turned them down as I had enough cycles on.
Just a quick question, if there are bonuses on a particular cycle, does everyone who gets a bug approved qualify to get it or its just for the rated ones?
