Nah, I have a full time job as a software developer, this is something I do for extra money in my spare time. I tend to focus mostly on test case cycles, with most of my bugs being a side effect of test cases.

It feels like in this case the customer approving the bugs, wasn't the same person who defined the scope, so they didn't realise what was actually being tested.

Generally in those cycles the issues being approved straight away are obvious issues (usually with basic functionality being broken for everyone, or obvious UI issues) the ones that stay pending are usually because the customer needs to do further investigation to determine if something is a bug, an issue with the users environment, more information gathering required, etc. I tend to find in cycles with things being approved quickly, rejections tend to occur quickly as well, it is the more complex issues which hang around.

This is the approach I have been taking recently as well. I have set up an alert for test cycles with test cases and most of the time these are the only cycles I participate in.

Just finished doing a stressful test case, i feel relieved, hopefully it will be accepted ok, just found out i'm on bronze borderline Silver which is a surprise really, I never thought i would stick with Utest for long as found it overwhelming, am actually enjoying it now though still nervous when I'm invited to a new cycle. I am now aiming to submit 2-3 good bugs per cycle, how are you all getting on? Thank you all for your support without which I wouldn't be able to stick with this great money earner.
Great to hear you are enjoying the experience Christine and your rating is improving also.

I've been on holiday the last couple of days and the number of cycles that have been dropping into my inbox is crazy, I've had to decline every single one but some of them have been cycles for some of the products I enjoy working on. I can guarantee as soon as I'm back it'll return to the rubbish cycles coming in again.

Very quiet on my side, got OOS which pushed me back to proven, the few cycles they have been sending are not my cup of tea e.g gaming, I'm terrible at it so just declined, hopefully I can get more cycles through and push my rating higher.

This thread has gone super quiet!! No posts since October.

I'm just coming on to moan. Got a bug rejected as OOS as the client (who is accepting/rejecting the bugs) says the environment I reported on is not in scope - but the environment I reported on is listed in the Environment Coverage in the overview as In Scope.  Do you think I have a chance to get it turned around? I don't care about the money - it is more the fact that my rating will be hurt by an OOS rejection.

I reckon if the device you used is definitely in scope in the overview then dispute it. You'll probably find the PM will approve it.

I really hate when I get invited from cycles with a particular device then find when I read the overview it is out of scope (like getting invited for my iPad on a iPhone only cycle).

Thanks Genie. I raised a dispute and the PM has converted it to a won't fix bug - still get a somewhat payout - and no harm to my rating done. I think I will think twice about doing anything for that client again (unless they make their scope accurate) as the environment I used was definitely listed in the scope (as was someone else's whose issue got rejected for the same reason).

I hate disputing but so far they have all come out in my favour so I guess there's no harm done in trying. :)

Hello, I've been invited to my first paid functional test cycle in uTester. Could I get advice from someone with experience? Where to start, do I need to download any specific app? Thank youuu.

The cycles can vary a lot. Sometimes it's an app; sometimes a web page. All the info you need should be in the overview for the cycle. Often there will be links to further information to help you out (such as how to create screenshots & videos). Once you've accepted a cycle you'll have access to chat where you can ask for help if needed.

Please can anyone tell me how to do crash logs? I've looked on the training on the Utest site but it all looks quite complicated. Is there a simpler way? Thanks

I just wanted to say a massive THANK YOU to everybody who contributed to this thread over the years :)

I read every single post then took the plunge and signed up about a month ago. Last week I was paid for my first tentative test cycles.

I wouldn't have had the confidence to go for it without all the tips and advice shared on here - you're a great bunch

I signed up to Utest a few months ago and regularly receive the emails of current jobs which I sign up for, but I've never been invited. I wasn't invited to do the sandbox test either, I've checked my profile and I seem to have everything ticked that I need (web and functionality). Am I doing something wrong?

I’m the same, everything is ticked and I get invites, but I find the website really overwhelming. Having said that I’ve only really looked at it on a mobile platform so should logon on the “big computer”!

I'm glad I'm not the only one! To be honest, I've only ever used the website on pc and I find it so confusing!

Hello all

Yep uTest as a newbie is overwhelming. You do really need to explore and read - but most of it will still seem like gobbledygook.

I am not techie in any way, but sometimes that's an advantage as they want testers who would use the test site like a normal user would. So don't be afraid.

Here's what I did:

You will need to be signed up and have set up your profile.

Go to: https://www.utest.com/articles/the-utest-academy

Where it says "How to participate" click on the link that takes you to a video course sign up page. Fill that in. I can't remember if you get access to it straightaway, but there is a video followed by some multiple choice questions and a couple of longer questions. Try to do this test carefully - don't rush it. Pay attention to detail. If you do well in the test you will get an invite to the Academy which uTest now seems to be running weekly rather than monthly.

Again when you are participating in the Academy really throw yourself into it, as there is a wealth of information and you get to take part in test cycles as though they were the real thing so you are really experiencing what it is like to be a uTester.

I started getting invites to paid cycles as soon as I had done the first Academy cycle. I haven't looked back since and I am turning down several invites a day.

And don't worry about the whole Sandbox thing. I didn't get invited until I was well into the Academy courses, and even then I wasn't informed I had passed for a couple of weeks. It seemed to be a bit irrelevant. I would say the Academy is the way to go.

Good luck to anybody giving it a go. I'll try to help if anybody gets really stuck. But I would say you'll do well if you're a "self-starter" and can use the resources on the site to find different ways of doing things. Read read and read some more :)

Considering giving it a go .

How much time do you allocate to this .

how long is the payment process and which medium is used?
