Participating in Psychology Studies

Many Psychology departments need the public to take part in their studies.
They usually get the Psych students to take part (for course credit) but they almost always need the public to participate too.
I take part in both my home town and where I go to university.

In my home town you get £4 for 30 minutes, £6 for 45 minutes etc.
90% of the studies are simple computer tasks and take less time than advertised.
They also advertise some EEG and MRI studies, which you get paid a lot more for, but I don't sign up for those.

Once you're signed into the participation system the studies will be listed, as well as the time slots available, so it's easy to choose appropriate times. I always do 2 or 3 studies back to back, if they're available.

If you have a university (which has a Psych department) where you live it is quite likely they have a system which advertises these paid studies.

If you search for "city name uni psychology participation" sometimes it will come back with results.
The hardest part is actually finding where to sign-up! :-\

Thanks for this info. I am interested. Found a couple of unis that do this and found the sign up page ok.
Definitely going to sign up and give it a go. Like you would do a couple in one day to make it worthwhile.
At £6 for an hour for me which is good.

I'm glad you found the information useful! ;D Exactly. I wouldn't go into the city centre just to participate in a £4 study but if I need to go shopping/visit the bank etc. being able to make £6-10 on the same day really helps!

I find they can also be pretty interesting, but that may be because I'm studying Psychology myself!

I have managed to book another study for tomorrow so I'll be making £14 in 1hr 45mins. ;D
I needed to go into the city centre anyway so it's a decent amount and I'm not travelling just to participate.

That is definitely worth it for that amount.
I know what you mean. You don't want to be paying all of it back out on travel. I would have to do a couple of them or one worth that amount to make it worthwhile going there.

It costs me £2.40 for a return to the city centre. I would never travel in for a single £4 study or something like that but if I can earn £8 or more I'll just make sure I do my shopping or anything else I need to do on that day.
