I do love watching you play with them but what bugs me the most is I've not seen on British person recruit yet, they've all been from America, Canada and New Zealand. I don't think the company has realised that it has tough competition over here with the likes of Avon and Bodyshop, both brands that are trusted and themselves who have reps who struggle.

I agree in that it is a VERY crowded marketplace over here

Avon etc are known brands and have been for years.

All Younique appears to be is SIGN UP NOW AT GROUND LEVEL....oh and we sell some makeup stuff as well

I can't remember what the startup costs are for them but there is some involved

Appears the start up cost for getting involved in this amazing opportunity is $99

They also seem to be pushing to get people to be part of the TRIPLE DIGIT CLUB (The first 999 signups)

You want to be part of that apparently.

I have been an independent Phoenix Trader for six years, but it's really only this year that I have decided to really get going with it. I have customers who are local to me and customers in other parts of the UK. I am now keen to achieve the next level in my business. To achieve Senior Phoenix Trader. I have tried other opportunities including those online. But I am passionate about greeting cards and gift paper.

Good to see these women being brought to justice. Wicked.
People do think MLM is a pyramid scheme but it's not because everyone has the same opportunity to reach the top. The top of a MLM scheme has unlimited width. :)

This market needs regulating in the UK

It's no different than someone knocking at your door and asking you for pay $99 to sign up to a door to door sales pitch

I do object to these people promoting their businesses in this way. I joined Phoenix Trading, not because of what money I could earn or what prizes/gifts I could get I joined because I was so impressed with the choice of good quality greeting cards compared to what is available in the high st shops. I am earning an income between £100 to £200 per month currently, I also have a small team. I now see that this business can give me the freedom I crave. And realise I have to put more effort into it, but I don't mind that. I don't promote my business like those above do. I will lead with the product, explain what they can earn, 30% of any orders and opportunities to earn a monthly bonus. I do hate the hard selling of some people boasting that the company they represent is the best opportunity in the World, so basically they saying that all the other opportunities are not.

Phoenix - exactly how I feel! I'm not going to deny I'd like a team, but first and foremost this is about me having jewellery to sell and a creative outlet, I wouldn't join a company where I didn't believe in the product, and I hate the MLM generic recruitment ads people put up where they don't even say what their brand is.

My only complaint with Phoenix cards is everywhere I go with my stall, I meet a different Phoenix trader, so while I did consider it I'm glad I didn't as it does feel pretty close to saturation around here.

I imagine this sort of stuff does piss both of you off.

You both work hard for your brands and are more on the 'creativity' side however

These 200 signups people are no different than the scalpers I see in the queue waiting outside an Apple store. They have NO INTENTION of actually wanting a new product, they just want it to resell on eBay.

Even with your Direct Sellers Association there is still no regulation (at least in this country).

I personally feel there is a real 'campaign' that could get some weight behind it where it was made illegal to try and get people to sign up without providing FACTS AND FIGURES and not just random numbers. If people were doing this door to door it would be on the news. Because it is going on on Facebook and forums people turn a blind eye to it but many people everyday are getting conned into signing up to something, handing over money and then having a near impossible goal to reach any of the numbers mentioned to them when they sign up..

I shall leave this picture I Saw this morning comparing the launch of quasi makeup brand Younique to Apple and Google and how you should 'get in at the start'

That's why I don't do events Ellie, I get my customers local to me and I also have an increasing number of customers nationally. I find events can be expensive especially as you have to buy all that extra stock, plus it's touch and go whether you sell anything. I picked up three orders today local to me. I pick up orders locally via e-mail, Facebook. Twitter and through the post. I just need a bigger team now.

I agree with what you have said. Although Kleeneze, Avon and Forever Living have been on the TV. It is wrong for anyone to claim that an individual can earn X amount of money. All we can do is give the official facts as laid out by the Company and testimonials. There are some opportunities that I am concerned with, especially those from the USA who have less regulations than we do. I am concerned about the ethics of some of them. DS Domination is very popular I know of a few people doing very well with it. I tried it but became deeply concerned that the products I was selling on eBay I did not own. So I left.

I wonder if they have permission of those companies to use their logos on promotional material? I suspect not - if anyone reported this to Apple and Google, I imagine they would be a little upset.

Someone should photoshop an extra couple of more suitable examples at the bottom?

How much was he fined? Someone should really tell those direct sellers on Facebook as they tend to always go with comparing 'getting in' with them to working for a large multinational company.

Nikki, can I ask how much you pay per catalogue please?

Sorry to drag this back up, its been a long summer and I've just found my post it which had this question on it :-[

Avon books are sold in packs of 5. The first 4 packs (therefore 20 books) cost £5.50, then each subsequent pack costs £0.50p so it works out at 10p a book.

I recently bought 16 packs (80 books) and it cost me £11.50, so that campaign works out at 14p a book. Normally I only buy 12 packs (15p each) but with it coming up to Christmas we're encouraged to re-canvass our territories, just a pity the re-canvassing cards I ordered (100 cards for £1, much cheaper than ordering 100 books like I have in the past!) are out of stock  This is one of the big problems with Avon, stuff being out of stock. They also have increased the cost at which you earn a "discount" to £85 (20% discount) and £155 (25%). They have also shortened the amount of time we have to return items from customers having 90 days to 28 days, reps now have 45 days to register the stuff as returns and send it back. I've had to clamp down on who I can hold onto stuff for, and I no longer hold stock "in case", I now only keep stuff I've managed to get for free through creative ordering, or items I've had so long I can no longer return.

I'm thinking I may branch out to selling the stuff on ebay, but I'm not sure yet as it looks like some people put the stuff on so cheap there is no way they can possibly be making a profit so I'd struggle to make it worth my while.

Comment just received by a satisfied customer, love getting messages like this. Love giving good customer service.
I'm delighted with my order,Paul! I'm going to take some cards to show my friends tomorrow when I drop off the brochures and also show my sisters some. As lovely as the pics in the brochures are, the photos can't really do justice to them. I particularly like the snowdrop Christmas card as the shimmer on it looks so beautiful. All of the birthday cards are just lovely too. Everything is of excellent quality. Thanks very much, Paul. xxx
