Mobile Broadband (and expensive roaming charges), although the divorce is probably more expensive.
haha, I've got wifi in my lodge (Centerparcs) but I realllllly need a break from all the online stuff! I may slip in a 30 minute visit a day!

Novice better here looking to make the most out of matched betting over the cheltenham festival

Join a matched betting service. Profit accumulator is often cited as best for beginners. (link in the banner above)

If you're not already, get signed up to, and the sign up offers done for:

Sky
Coral
William Hill
Ladbrookes
Bet 365
Betfair
Betfred
Paddypower

also smarkets as an additional exchange.

If you have it, dump at least £500 in the exchanges as well as a small working float in each of the bookmakers.

These are the biggest bookmaker and tend to have the best offers, Especially on the first race of the day. The Sky offer is a nice easy one to get started with.

If you can, take at least the first day of the festival off work, so you have time to read through and understand the offers and how to profit from them, and have time to place the bets and get decent odds.

I change the colour of the background cell in my spreadsheet to bright yellow for anything I haven't laid or have queued.

This method of laying before the off obviously has an element of gambling to it, but if you do go this route I would consider queuing rather than just waiting and then laying. Horses odds are very volatile - sometimes they can come in and then drift right out again within just a few minutes and if you're not watching then you'd never even know it happened.

Queueing means you'll match even if you're afk at the time the odds move. Worse case scenario is it doesn't match and you cancel the queue before the race starts and re-lay to whatever is appropriate.
At the risk of sounding like a total newbie (and bear in mind i only started 1st Jan), what is queuing?
Is it a specific thing?

It is when you place a lay bet at the price you want and not at the current price and then hope that it eventually gets taken as the odds move during the day

Queuing is where you attempting to place a lay bet at slightly better odds than are currently being layed in a market, so if the current lay odds are 3.1 you might cue at 3.0 thinking that the odds come in and your lay bet will get matched.

Basically gambling and not advise, as if the lay odds drift you're looking at a potential loss to get your lay matched.

Agree with this :) Not a risk free strategy x

So...what you're doing when you queue is, you're entering a Lay bet that you know won't instantly match, but you're hoping that in the future, the odds will change in your favour and it'll match later on. Because you've entered your Lay bet already, it's sitting in the exchange just waiting for a match.

As mentioned, this is *not* risk free as the odds can drift as well as come in. I only do it sometimes and then only if I can do it with at least an degree of confidence (you know the market you're betting on and have an idea if something is poorly priced and likely to come in). 9/10 of it's fine and I've saved a fortune but I've been on the wrong side of the 1/10 which is considerably less fun.

I have a queue active at the moment for the Basketball. Odds rarely drift to any significant degree in Basketball because you're only betting on win/lose (there is no Draw), however because the games usually take place from Midnight onwards there is very little money in the market early in the evening.

Therefore I've placed my Lay bet in a queue ready for when people come along in a couple of hours. I'm 90% sure it'll match at a price I want, but if it drifts, I'll just re-Lay it and eat the slightly bigger QL.

TBH, queueing isn't something I'd recommend for a new MB'er who might not understand the risks or can't afford the hit to their bankroll (though if a person is new, they will likely only be using small stakes so the QL loss amounts will also be small). It's not something I'd risk a £1000 or even a £100 bet on as then if things do go wrong, you've lost a lot more than just an extra £1.

With the Queuing; My strategy is to look at how much money is available to back and lay at the current odds. If there is a lot more available at the lay price than the back price I will usually queue my lay up at the back price so it is ready to be matched.

In this example in the over 2.5 market you can see there is £368 ready to be matched on the lay side, but very little on the back side. So I would risk placing my lay at 2.1 or 2.08 and it would sit on the left hand side waiting to be matched. arrow.jpg

wow yeh, i've only gone up to 25 so far @Pbrail

I still squirm a bit just placing £50 bets (which can easily have several hundred in Liability on the Exchange side), there are lots of people who regularly bet £1000's on things like 2UP - I'm way too chicken to do that, that *would* be the bet I make a typo on or something...

Incidentally, I do think it's worth mentioning, that in my defence I suggested Queueing instead of doing nothing at all and just waiting to place a Lay closer to race start. Which is even riskier.

Can’t remember if it’s been mentioned but Skybet are now doing £20 refund on that first race of EVERY DAY OF THE FESTIVAL so that’s £80 in free bets right there :)

If you've been lucky and managed to survive the mass gubbings the past day or 2 :(
