My mum has downloaded something on her iPhone and iPad to do with PointsPanel, it seems to be something that collect info about your phone usage and rewards you with points daily (10 for first part of the month and 25 for next part) with cash out being 500 points for $4

The thing is it's put a VPN (virtual private network) in her settings which needs to be running for the app to work. My knowledge of VPN's is that they're used by third parties to gain access to whatever the VPN is running on. I'm not sure if she should have it as it sounds a bit dubious security wise.

Wondered if anyone knew any more or whether someone knows if she should stop using it.

I had a similar thing through Global test market some sort of software gave points for keeping it on but had the same thing. The VPN so I just took it off. I don't trust anything like that. I would not risk it just in case as it seemed to me to be a security risk having anything like that.

Its goes through a VPN so that they can track what websites are being used on your mums phone

Be aware that if she s using a VPN and websites such as Swagbucks she may find herself getting a ban as they, and a lot of sites, don't allow you to use a VPN.

My Grandad got scammed over the phone by allowing people to access his computer via a VPN, they would have taken around £240 if they had been successful - luckily my Grandad isn't so good at typing and we think he fluffed his bank details (as there was no pending transactions) but we got the card cancelled just in case. Things like that make you wary I guess.

So that is not good then if you can be scammed through it.
Just not worth it for a few points or a few pounds.
