And I know what you’re saying. I’m just asking for specific feedback on the apps/sites I’ve mentioned as I have found lots of good apps, but these ones don’t seem as good. So I just wanted someone to say “yeah I do well with them” or “no I don’t get much from them”. And I’m trying new things every day so it’s not like I’m not trying to control the income. I’ve applied for loads of things.

I'm up in Scotland and there is even less work on some of these apps. Does it mean I never check them? No way jose as I could be missing out on a job lot of tasks that are UK wide. Broaden your focus. I don't rely on any of the earnings as I am lucky enough to be supported by my husband but the money I do make means I am around for the kids and pays for all the nice extras. If I did need to ensure a regular income I for sure wouldn't be using surveys, and the likes of Neevo to support me as they are not reliable sources of income. There are call centre the work that allows you to work from home and offer guaranteed work but obviously are less flexible in the hours of working.

You'll probably find feedback on these apps varies on where someone is located in the UK, access to a car, how far people are prepared to travel for a task, how low in £ someone is willing to work for et etc.

It's extremely tough when you're starting out with self-employment. Trust me, I've been self-employed for 25 years, and I'm still constantly looking for ways to adjust the balance - especially at the moment, when I'm likely to see all my performing income disappear until at least June (hopefully my singing students will adjust to being taught via Zoom).

I know it's hard, but all I can say is try to calm down about it (sorry about that...no one ever calmed down from being told to calm down). I honestly think you need to give every app at least three months. Don't forget that most, if not all, of the street task apps are likely to slow down over the next couple of months depending on whether/when the country goes on lockdown.

What are your skills? What were you doing for a job? Is there any way you can take that online and earn money from it that way?

Sorry, firing questions and advice at you; popping out for a bit now to do my last bit of face to face teaching until...God alone knows...but back later.

I know we're your coming from, I'm trying to get a regular income and its not easy. I've tried a lot of the apps some are good but others I barely get anything. The only regular thing I have at the minute is the Lionbridge ads rating, I've just been rejected from the maps application process and I've applied for loads of things on Appen and never got a reply from them. I'd love to get on something I can get into properly.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve passed the assessment with Lionbridge for the ad rating job but I’m just waiting for them to have a spot open for me, hopefully it will come. I am doing well on the shopping task apps though, but it’s a lot of driving around. I do enjoy it though.

Thanks for the reply. I find it hard to say what my skills are and sell myself. I was just a Team Leader for Mecca Bingo so I can’t really transfer that. I think I am good at writing, like I did a bit of Psychology at Open Uni. I only did the first year but in my essays I was getting 95+ out of 100 so I know I’m capable of writing, I just don’t really know what I would write about and how I would make money from it. I think I would be good at typing but I’ve applied for a few things and not heard anything back. I did a test on one site and I did over 83 words per minute, I think that’s quite good. I think I have a good eye for detail and I can be analytical so mystery shopping would be great for me, I’m trying to find more stable income sources from that at the minute.

Writing takes time to build up. It's taken me three years to reach where I am on PPH (I flirt with TopCert, but usually hover around CERT5 because I'm fundamentally lazy and only really dip in there to make the money up), but I reckon if you were dedicated you could build up a decent portfolio of clients in a year or less. Don't worry about what you'd write about as it's all in the research - I started trying to write about things that interested me, but in a fit of desperation one day applied for a cryptocurrency writing job, landed it, and wrote for that client for over two years until he closed his site.

There are LOTS of places to write, too - content mills are poorly paid, but they're a good place to learn to write fast. Try Copify on for size. Cashout is £10 which you'll make in a couple of very short articles. I can average £25 an hour there if I'm absolutely desperate for money (which is basically going to be this month as all my concert work has been cancelled due to Covid-19). Learning to churn is an essential skill; it doesn't make for the best writing, but you're mostly producing disposable web content. Accurate and useful, but not War and Peace.

Thanks again. Is it easy to get accepted on Copify? I’ve just had a quick glance at the application and it’s asking about experience etc and attaching a LinkedIn profile which I don’t have. I’ll give it a go.

It's probably seven or eight years since I signed up, so I have no idea what it's like now to join. I just know that there's regular work. Give it a shot.

I’ve applied. I had to write 200 words about the legacy of the 2012 Olympics. Hopefully I’ve done enough! :)

Can I just say well done!. I look at your progress and dedication and you seem to be hitting some good amounts in a short period of time with many of the apps you are using. To be honest I looked at your totals and it made me have a look again at some of the apps as personally I don't use them at the moment and haven't used many of them for a year or so now, and wondered if I was missing out on an extra bit of income. Whether I use them or not I still have them all downloaded and regularly update them.

As many have said being self employed is about focus and hard work. You have to at times cut your losses and change your focus, not always it depends on what you are good at. This kind of work is exactly the same. The survey sites I found were not for me, not because they cannot be a good source of income but I did not want to sit behind a computer all day. The app work as good as it has been at times I found many of them, and still do, a lot of work for what they are, and in some case harder than other similar work you can get. I have had endless arguments with some of them about how they do things but it works for most of the people that use them.

Both of these areas are not for me.....RIGHT NOW! It does not mean I don't keep all my accounts open and check emails and dip in now and then, of course I do. as there may come a time where I need to use them and reply more on them.

I know you cannot do match betting, but the same mentality. I have had over £20,000 out of match betting and found it a great extra income source, but I dip in and out of it when I have the time, the available cash and want to. BUT I keep my subscription paid. Cheltenham is a perfect case, I know I should be on it and had all the intentions in the world to be focused on it. BUT something else came up and that has taken my time and some of my bank that I needed so I made the choice to focus on the other thing as it is a long term project rather than this week/weekend.

The area that I pushed myself in was Mystery shopping. I have been doing it for 5 years now, in that time again I was dipping in and out and doing it when I wanted and when I needed some money. It worked but it was slow. I then decided to up my game and went from 5 or 6 companies to almost 30 companies and it became a much bigger pot of my monthly income. It takes time and when you do more and more you will get calls from the companies rather than always chasing for the work, but it is not a quick process but like anything, call them, email them ask them. Don't badger them and make yourself a pest but say you will help if you can. Then do jobs you perhaps don't really want to do as it not only pushes you out of your comfort zone but also looks good to the shopping company.

So my two pence get some structure with all the apps you have mentioned, even the ones that are low on jobs or you think are not doing anything and make a plan or checklist and every day check them, tick them off the list and move on. Plan to contact 1 new Mystery shopping company and a week and plan your month with work and fill in different jobs in the same areas to make it more profitable. DO NOT see this as a day by day job it is a long term job treat it a that and don't worry if today is NMD (no money day) tomorrow may be a DMD (double money day). Always work out your hourly rate from what you have achieved and be honest on how much time you have worked on something and then see how you are doing, sometimes you will be surprised and if it was scaled up it is where you want to be. Then like any business, it is just about scaling it up.

Thank you so much for all of that feedback! I really appreciate it and I will take your advice on board about the mystery shopping as that is something I do want to do.

I am really pleased with what I’ve made so far, I didn’t think it would be possible. I have put the work in though especially with the task apps. I’ve been going out driving every day. Today I’ve done 10 tasks over 3 hours and made £40 on Shepper, £3.50 on BeMyEye and £6 on Roamler. Later on I will do some surveys on Qmee and Curious Cats and top it up a little.

Pleased to say I got accepted on Copify as well so I will keep you posted on that :)

Delighted you got accepted on Copify! Now learn to churn...in the best possible sense, of course ;)

Does anyone know about Smartspotter payments? It says they are paying out today but I haven’t had anything yet.

I treat Urb-it as a more or less full time job and make about £240 a week on average. Worth a look if you’re in London. I applied for Shepper, downloaded the app, passed the criminal record check etc but they’ve never sent me the log in despite reminders via email and Facebook. They just ignore emails and reply with badly spelt promises that it’ll be done ‘today’ on FB!

Morning folks,
I’ve had a few jobs suddenly appear on Shepper . So now for the questions....the vacant property jobs & the retail jobs, can anyone give me a quick explanation of what exactly is needed before I go mad & accept them all! Also can I do a few on the same day as they are pretty much all within walking distance of each other & for £5 a pop I could potentially earn a fair bit! thanks x
