Ok, so part of the same Amazon programme featured some people who had wrote books and self published them on Amazon and they subsequenly managed to get a publishing deal, I assume through the sale they made. Thinking about it this is someone anyone could do as the books can be about anything doesn't have to be fiction. The guy features claimed that his book solely from Amazon sales had paid for his house. Quite remarkable really.

Anyone thought of giving it a go? There is supposed to be all the help you need on Amazon to be able to do it and obviously Amazon will take their cut.

I know some people have made tidy sums from publishing ebooks. There was a lady called Kay McMahon who was a moderator of another forum I used to go on (now disappeared sadly) who used to publish e-books. Her blog is at http://www.kaymcmahon.com/ and there's quite a lot of stuff about it and other online earning opportunities if you go back through the blog posts. Nice lady too.

I've thought over the last few months about creating an e-book made up our posts on the blog + additional content

Just don't know if its too niche and worth the time required to product it vs how much I might make from it

For every self-published author who has made it big, there must be thousands who have not achieved many, if any, sales. It does of course depend on the writing skills of the author, the topic of the book and how well it is marketed.

If you were to write a great self-help book or a good thriller and publish it on Amazon, you would need to do all your own publicity and marketing. Your success would depend on gaining attention and building a reputation. When the book has a number of good reviews and people are recommending it on their blogs or to their friends, that is when it will start to get the sort of sales that make it a success.
