Quick Q about being employed and self-employed

Ever since I started working for myself it's been on a freelance, self-employed basis and I pay my own Class 2 NI. I have recently been offered an opportunity through a friend of a friend's husband who runs one of the smaller mystery shopping companies auditing the reports their shoppers produce before sending them on to customers - checking for spelling, grammar, sentence structure etc. Work from home, fully flexible - sounds great!

Only question is that they have asked me to fill in a P46 so they can put me on the payroll. I very much doubt I'll be earning £110 a week with them or whatever the threshold is for Class 1 NI, and probably won't be taxed either. So do I just keep all payslips and details from them and whack it all on my tax return at the end of the year?

OK so I am employed and self employed. I have a main job and I work for companies as self employed

My self employed earnings have never gone through the barrier needed to pay NI on them so I have got the certificate and been exempt

My main job obviously has and I just pay that as normal

I have just done my tax return for last year using my P60 from my main job + self employed earnings. Any tax I owe I say to take from my main job over the course of the year.

That's where I am anyway

I used to be employed and self-employed. As well as self-employed work, self-assessment form asked me to list people I work for and what my earnings were, which based on the P60 I received each year.

Don't forget if you are employed you will also be entitled to holiday pay :)

You probably already know this but there is a no quibble set amount you can set against your tax for using your home as your office. Can't remember what it is - think it's £204 a year but not sure. Saves having to breakdown costs of gas, elec, internet, etc etc although this could be a higher figure depending on your hours.

It's now (this is monthly on hours worked)

25 to 50hrs - £10
51 to 100hrs - £18
101hrs and more -£26
