I woke up this morning to find yet another ton of referrals (that have already been posted before) as their own new topics.

I was wondering whether there should be a rule that referral codes and links go in the very first post about something? Then readers can take their pick of who they want to support, without having one post threads all over the place?

Just a little annoyance that I'm having.

Once a first post is made only the person who make the post and myself are able to alter it.

What you are suggesting is that as people add their own referral codes to a thread that the existing first post is modified to add their referral links as well - Will that not piss off the OP as their link gets more and more devalued (which I get is what's happening here)

You could do it numerous ways such as the green site route where all referral links are banned or contained within one subforum , however a forum by a it's very nature lets people post what they want where they want. ie NO REFERRALS, JUST DISCUSSION - The downside is people would have to remove referrals from their signature

On top of that I need to come up with a better idea for Roamler codes. I thought blocking it behind a post count as high a 10 would create more posting traffic and while it does the majority of it does not add anything to the site imo (however that could just be me being precious)

Maybe I need to lower the post count to 5, or remove the post count entirely and just go back to having it only appear if you are a member. The Code is a good carrot to dangle to get people enrolled into the site but if they are not adding much in the way of quality content I'm not sure what I am getting out of it

Did you try putting it behind a rank rather than post count?

If it is possible then the next rank up (and above) can see the codes but the member rank needs to be manually authorised. I know that is a little more admin work but it would probably stop the one liners and spam in order to get the codes. Then it could take 5 GOOD quality posts or 15 average posts for the member to get there, you decide if their participation is good enough. Maybe throw in a few moderators that can take that work load for you ;)

Then we are getting into the realms of subjectivness in regards to what constitutes 'good quality'

A new user typically is someone who hasn't had the exposure we have had to online earnings. Maybe doesn't know all the terms of the companies that are being mentioned and is finding their feet

The next level up 50 posts to Junior member and I would hate to think a new user would have to come on here and post garbage and resurrect old threads just to get to 50 posts and get the Roamler code they want

Or I just give the code away for viewing once you are registered thus making the headache go away ; )

5 easy good posts

1) Introduction thread
2) Create a money making/saving diary
3) A comment in the ongoing monthly, gaming, what has made you smile, what has pissed you off, fat shedders thread.
4) Ask a question about one of the companies they have seen or make a comment if they have already used it
5) Comment on your diary at how awesome you are ;)

Easy 5 threads without spamming one line, add something to the forum and boosts your ego ;) hahaha

OR as you have said, remove the premium content altogether. You can't win whichever you choose lol

I'm not sure how to execute it. Definitely not amending the first post! The op's link should be in the first post, getting the most referrals - for example, Katy and Geolotto. But then we don't need 10 other new threads about a Geolotto referral.

I personally would either click on the op's referral link, or a user who has a lot of posts over someone with just 5 posts.

OK I think that's a fair comment.

If they wish to post their referral they do it in the existing thread - I will do some clearing up ;)

Seems like a good idea to not have tons of additional threads. I do really well from referrals elsewhere, but have had some great ones here now too. Even I don't want to see new threads every time I come on about the same old offers and referral links x

Yes good idea. Can't there be a way to set up so if someone tries to post the same topic on something a message comes up to redirect them to the thread about it so not allowing them to post that referral thread/topic a second time so that duplicates just don't happen?

Hopefully the threads can be tidied up a bit then so that there aren't several referral threads for the same thing.

Good. I can see why you put OT on the threads so you can easily see which was the original thread.
Better to have them all in the one thread regardless of whether it is a referral link or not.
If people want people to sign up under them they need to be interacting with people onheree and not just posting referral links and nothing else of sites that are already on here anyway.
There are plenty of threads/topics to respond to. :)

OHHHH now I know what OT means.....

But yes. Regardless of the forum, I will choose to support someone who has lots of posts instead of someone who just comes on to post their referral link.

Why is that?

Just easier to manage. As the weeks and months go by what do we gain by having x number of threads with just one post in them saying a PA referral code

I thought what was happening now was you could have one OT on the subject and then one referral post for people to post their referrals in. I don't really follow though so may be misunderstanding. I just point people who are looking for hints at my signature and that's about it really. Think most regulars do similar.

Nevermind, I've re-read the previous page and it makes sense now :D Seems wise to just have one post, avoid clutter. I guess some posts need clearing up? Or will you leave the old repeat ones?

As this is the third thing I've misunderstood in the last hour I better get offline and go to bed before I cock up my website like last time :D
