Hi all, I made an eBay account last night and I was trying to research things that I could buy and sell to make a profit but it seems harder than it looks. Do you have any tips for me on where to start? When the shops are back open I'm going to go to charity shops and carboot sales and try and find some good deals but other than that I'm a bit stuck. I was looking at things I could buy and get cash back on too and then try and sell for a profit, does anybody do that?

I think it helps to find a niche and become an expert on it. Research it well so you can spot bargains and know how much to charge for what you sell. Someone on here used to do very well with vintage and rare tools but I can't for the life of me remember his name.

Is there much demand for that then? Are people searching for it? Have you checked on

The search doesn’t bring up anything relevant I don’t think?

I was thinking to try and sell them without eBay to start with. My friend does raffles and she’s gone halves with me so she’s going to try and make money on there with them and sell them to her friends. If not I’ve seen people selling them on eBay for like £3.75 so if I put them on for £2.50 each then I would still profit if they all sell.

Am I dreaming? Haha.

Not dreaming. I think you will shift a few. And you have to start somewhere. As you are starting new on ebay it will be a good idea to sell a few on there cheaply with the aim to break even or make small profit - Just to get your feedback level up.

They look like they will go as a large letter in a normal postbox so will save trips to the post office.

Thank you I think they will sell too. My friend is doing a 10p raffle for 2 lip glosses, 100 numbers and 30 numbers have gone already so it looks like we’ve sold 2 for £10 already.

We’ve made £10 off 2 of them in an hour so hopefully it was worth the risk.

Am I right in thinking I can put the cost of those lip glosses (£40 for 50) down as an expense on my list of expenses for this month?

If you spend £10 buying an item and sell it for £15 you claim £10 as an expense and £5 as your profit

So if I sell all 50 items, possibly at different prices, I can put £40 as the expense?
